If you want an idea....grab a single cab T4, ditch the engine and gearbox, modify the front sub-frame to manage normal steering and carry electric powered support for PAS, air con, cabin heating and brakes, strip the tray off, install custom engine sub-frame over rear axle, install the most appropriately modified air cooled VW engine you can find afford...stand back in wonder

Someone up north a couple of years back posted on here that he was transplanting V8 into his old T4 , I think he was looking at a mid engine job . Never heard anymore to see if he did the job though . Reminds me of the Ford Transit on Top gear which blew the doors off a Holden Malloo V8 ute in the UK it had a Jag twin turbo engine mid mounted .

There was some youtube ages ago with a T4 on a Qld racetrack making v8 noises froma mid mounted engine...but it looked like an engineering project rather than a road ready build.

Either way...there's plenty of scope to convert a chassis cab T4 to RWD with a range of high powered transaxles
