    [QUOTE=johannvisser;1180785]Yes, have you been there?

    In 2004 we did a camping trip from Vic Falls to Cape Town and then hired a Polo for a wander through SA for just over 3 weeks. Did a day trip up the Sani Pass with a chap in a Toyota. Was a terrific day and enjoyed every minute of it. The whole trip was fantastic. A South African Braai is something special........

    We did stay with a Johann Visser near Cullinan, it's not you is it?

    Great to hear that you enjoyed it! Sorry it's not me, I'm in Mossel Bay, (a small drinking town with a fishing probplem)
    It's about time to do a trip again! The Rand is so weak now you guys can afford a cheap holiday and have enough money to "braai" every day!

    Hey Guys,

    Been a while still doing work to the van , Ive discovered I'm the most anal person on the planet which stops things progressing quickly, I really have to stop it its taking far to long to set it up,

    Anyhow I've had time in the middle of things to look up and measure the T5 suspensions,
    Mine is factory suspension "upgrade 2 (heavy duty shocks and springs) for rough road use))"
    The VW code name for this is 1BB, the standard suspension is 1BA (both have other variants dependant on vehicle type and other options on the vehicle) Maxi is called 1BH and is completely different strut to knuckle mounting and different wheel bearings and cannot be mounted to a normal T5 ,
    NOTE: - None of these VW suspensions Provide Lift, NONE!

    Factory specifications
    Front:
    1BA = 471 +/- 10mm (standard)
    1BA = 455 +/- 10mm (certain Vehicles)
    1BB = 471 +/- 10 mm (heavy duty)
    1BH = 471 +/- 15mm (Maxi 3.2T)

    Rear:
    1BA = 479 +/- 15mm (standard)
    1BA = 459 +/- 10mm (certain vehicles)
    1BB = 479 +/- 15mm (heavy duty)
    1BH = 479 +/- 15mm (Maxi 3.2 T)

    My 1BB sitting at real world unladden values of: (all measurements from centre of wheel/hub vertical to under arch as per factory spec)
    Front LHS = 442 ( lowest probably due to battery, , 2nd battery, Fuel tank, washer bottle and DSG etc all on this side near front)
    Front RHS = 452
    Rear LHS = 460
    Rear RHS = 453

    Now the section where i need input from the guys using Seikel

    My hanging dimensions (IE: my 1BB vehicle on jacks, suspension fully extended and wheels are hanging, not on the ground)

    Front:
    LHS = 540mm
    RHS = 540mm

    Rear:
    LHS = 530mm
    RHS = 530mm

    What is the dimensions of the Seikel kits when full extended / wheels hanging?

    If any of you guys would be kind enough to jack it up and measure it It would be much appreciated , I am just trying to define if Seikel lift kits also give extra travel or just lift

    I suspect just lift due to the CV's but curious to know , trying to see if the Buying the whole strut kit is actually necessary or just changing springs on my already heavy duty shocks/struts is sufficient,

    Have heaps of other things to discuss on here with you Guys , just need to find time

    Thanks for your time Guys
    Keep up the good work on this thread,

    PS: Nice Vid Murph!, Need to get mine out there, looks like a great adventure !
    PPS: Bruce how are the Yokohamas going?

    Regards

    MAD that's an awesome post, next time I have time I will jack up my car and post specs as well, i have a decent lift, can't remember the brand of struts, spring are king springs and it rides really nice. I have 235/65R17 Kumho highway terrains. I have had it on the beach up and down double island point and all around Queensland and New South Wales down dirt roads and some 4wd tracks! I'll post some pics of my van. I can't believe some of the things it has done for me so far! 4motion is pretty impressive! Could you please write up your clearance distance your jack points to the ground? For the front and the back and left and right!? I will post mine too!

    If the T5 Seikel kits are anything like the T4 kits...then all you get is lift. Which is why I didn't bother and just got the taller King Springs...and (eventually) some knock off diff spacers! The only thing unique about Seikel in the T4 era (apart from the diff spacers) was the custom shock valving on the supplied (and stock length) Bilstein dampers. Given I'm not a fan of gas dampers this was a loss I could and have dealt with for quite some time...thank you Koni.

    Hey SaltDog,

    Nice rig you got there , see you have the double side doors , I have that also, see you made a wooden step to fill in the step dip on the driverside, I just did the exact same thing last week,

    Will put up the jack point clearances once I get it off the blocks Ive had it on for the last month, (note this will be with stock 235/55-R17 tyres) haven't done tyres yet all in the plan just many other things to do first,

    Few Questions about your rig ,
    see you have the Drifter boxes look good, decided to build my own and is taking some time, will put up pics when done, how do you find the drifter draw system?

    Where did you get the Flywire screen with the opening for the pullout draw? been looking for a serious set of accessible midge proof flywires for all doors , if there custom where did you get them done?

    What do you use for water tanks? (I'm struggling with a Supplier from the UK at the moment) , they have tanks for where i want to put them, but they are not very good at details, was trying to get an accurate drawing from them so I could have the fittings positioned correctly to my needs before sending it halfway around the world but they are a bit Blazeah , even there sketch of the tank height and width in there catalog was wrong , not helpful but are the the only company I've found makes tanks to go down the right hand side under the vehicle,

    Did you put diff spacers in? if so how thick are they? (if any of the Seiklel guys know or SEANO please post also)

    Anyhow have to get back to it , massive amounts of work still to be done,

    Hope to hear from more guys so we can keep this thread full of details required for those on the suspension hunt,

    Regards

    Hey MAD,

    The drifter kit is sooo good, i was going to make one, but honestly, there is no way i could have matched there build quality. It stays in the van, fully stocked with cuttlery, cooker etc. (it was only $50 delivery from Sydney to Gladstone!!!?) I got the DPOR

    Water tank is a bit crappy, i just have a 40L bladder I brought off of ebay. I sit it in a plastic container in the middle of van next to the kitchen and run a hose out (fill and drain). It works well for washing/coffee water etc. I have a filter as the water tastes like Sh*t! The filters only last 3 days, so I am at a loss at the moment! There is a place at the sunshine coast which does custom poly tanks. When i move from Gladstone next month I will go visit them! But my other option is Southern Spirit Campervans, they sell two tanks which fit under the side you are talking about! I think they are in Geebung!

    Flyscreens - I saw some online premade, but i wanted custom screens, I have the solid canvas for the back with pull out kitchen section and flyscreen component, plus i have one for the side door! I don't have sliding windows, so this is used for air flow! I just talked to my local marine upholsterer and got him to make them, i think it was about $300 each....but well worth the money!

    No diff spacers for me, Not sure whether i will have problems further down the track, been okay for 7 months now?

    Got any pics of your van MAD? Or anybody else with Lifts! Please post photos!!!
