    key problem

Hi, I have been experiencing a problem with MY10 locking by itself! I decided to give my spare remote a go as it has never been used.It doesn't work.I was told I would have to have it programmed by VW at a cost...Anyway I was thinking this could be a problem if it decides to lock me outside with the key inside, so I tried to manually unlock the door with the actual key and neither of them fit inside the lock? They are both the original keys and remotes with the same pattern on the cut out.
Has anybody been in this situation? Some ideas to both problems would be much apriciated.
    Thanks.

In that video all they have done is resync'd the remote, not programmed it. You do not need 2 keys for this as all you have to do it turn the ignition on, press the remote button and turn off. 2 keys are only needed for older VAG cars where they are coded through the door lock. Yours being a MY10 the remote is programmed diagnostically. Try resyncing it first though. If that doesn't work then to save a trip to the dealer do you know anyone with VCDS?

As for it not working in the door lock. It is common for the grease in locks to harden when they are not used which prevent them from working correctly. Try lubricating the lock and work the key in and out for a couple of minutes to see if that fixes it.

While the above suggestions are most likely, is there the possibility somone has fitted something to your van with incorrect wiring or a wiring method that isn't of the van's liking..in my case it was the Nokia mobile phone bluetooth kit which was spliced into an active wire behind the dash rather then using the radios supply and mute connection correctly...just a left field thought....and I was sceptical until the wiring was changed and problem of self locking wing doors stopped.

Thanks for your replies.I put some WD40 in the lock and that solved the physical key problem...Tried the re-sync but no good. Will check out local mechanics for a VCDS.Thanks again.
