Well done, looking forward to seeing the pics.
Well I've gone and done it and joined the T4 fraternity!
After my Tarago died I had been using a station wagon to cart my gear around but have been struggling with lack of space so decided it was time to take a look at another van. After looking at Hi-Aces, Merc Vitos and VW T5's I saw many forum posts suggesting the T4 and particularly the 2.5 TDI manual was the VW van to look for.
So I did and after several weeks of perusing the web and car yards I finally found something that seems to fit the bill.
First saw it on Saturday while on a hoist and checked it out underneath.
It's a 2003 (March) T4 2.5 TDI 5 speed manual SWB Transporter with A/C, CD/Radio and 250,000kms on the clock which is reasonable kms for the age.
It has a new clutch and DMF, new disc pads and rotors all round plus numerous other service items totaling $3700 over the past 12 months.
Took it for a drive today... plenty of power and no strange noises or vibrations.
Transmission, CV's etc seemed good.
Motor seems very good with no top end rattles (apart from the usual diesel clatter) and pulled really well up a long hill @ 1500 RPM in fifth gear!
The one thing that did crop up intermittently was an unresponsive accelerator pedal.
This occurred several times on the road test and I had to stop and switch the ignition off then on.
This fixed the problem temporarily allowing me to travel about 1/2 a km before it repeated itself.
I managed to limp back to the dealer and his mechanic checked it out and according to the code it showed up as a throttle position sensor fault.
The A/C was also not cold.
Overall it seems good and I left a deposit on condition the throttle sensor and A/C is fixed.
It has 12 months reg, RWC and is $10,990 all up.
I'm just in the process of finding out when the cam belt and water pump was last changed.
I'll also sus out the radiator, thermostat and hoses with summer warming up.
I plan on insulating and sound deadening the back.
I pick it up next week and will post some pics.
Well done, looking forward to seeing the pics.
Understand how it works, troubleshoot logically BEFORE replacing parts.

Hi Pundit
Got the same a couple of months back, although LWB 2003 built and 2004 Australian plated. 237,000 ks
Had a "clicking" clutch pedal which I fixed y day with a bracket from T4 UK Forum member. Changed the engine oil and filter as soon as I got it. Easy as when you realize you need to undo the lower pan under the engine by removing 6 bolts first.
Goes like a train.
Love it so far.
