OK, all the problems you've had, were they the real problems, and if yes, what were the fixes for them? You never said that your van was repaired and it was running well then. So, to me, it is the original fault that needs to be addressed and it will be posted in a one thread. In other words, don't start multiple threads when your van is broken down.

    What research?

They changed a part (crank speed sensor) that was not broken. And now i have more problems than before.
sure i agree that in the process of trying to find a problem then as a process of elimination to find the cause then they must start at the least intrusive and logical and work up. But that is my point, they changed an illogical part. And if it wasn’t for my research on sites like these then i would never have learned about the tandem pump and asked them to test it finding a real fault. While i acknowledge maybe it did not fix the problem either, it at least makes a sense that it could be.
No, it doesn’t make a sense! You were wrong with your diagnose and you’re making an excuse for it by saying “it made a sense” (it was a wild guess that you found somewhere on the net and they wasted their time by doing what you wanted them to do!)

I’m not sure what you mean by that, but you don’t pay for their knowledge, if that’s what you meant. You need them as they need you and that's it, nothing more. So I call it even.

do you think 200k is a good run? (it was not trouble free motoring though) i dont. mayby some do though
What can I say? One of your first posts was that you were looking for a good mechanic in Sydney to take care of your van at 180,000km. May I ask you? Why so late? How was the van and your mechanic doing up to 180,000km?
