as a rule of thumb - on any car really - is when the timing belt is changed, change the water pump - most of the money spent when doing these jobs is labour.

Is there any way of finding out if the pump has been replaced? I got mine used with 85k on it, now has 145k on it.
When should the belts be replaced?

    Flexible couplings at 120,000km.
Look at the water pump cover for the spanner markings on the 3 bolts.

T5's with AXD and AXE have timing gears, they're maintenance free. The water pump is easy to replace, the repair cost is high when the pump leaks coolant onto the oil and engine oil and oil filter have to be changed. Replacing w. pump as preventative measure should be cheaper. But, I wouldn't do it.

I can't find anything on the net about which type. Should say it in the manual I'd hope.

Have a chat to Parso Rex. You do realise that will raise your combustion temps, and possibly endanger your turbo?
