    Insurance camper

    Hi
Just wondering who you recommend to insure my 95 transporter with TRAKKA conversion.
The couple of major companies I have called want to value it at its pre conversion amount and it seems a huge hassle to value the modifications.
I'm sure there are companies out there that insure cars that are not stick standard..
A couple I have heard of is Shannon's and Just Cars.
Just seeing what everyone else in my shoes does.
    Many thanks for your time.

Perhaps a ring around those two would give some idea of prices. Ken Tame brokers used to do modified vehicles so try them although I believe he has sold the business recently

You would probably have to try for agreed value which can cost a lot more

As Hillbilly pointed out there is Ken Tame, I'm pretty sure the are still around, they are still listed on the Campervan & motorhome of australia club as an insurer.

    https://www.kentame.com.au

There is also CIL, they specialise in Recreational vehicles such as caravans and motorhome.

Motorhome insurance Cover Australia - Cost Quote - CIL Insurance

getting a quote from both would be free and you can weight it up against with Shannons and Just Cars.

    Thanks..
I did try for an agreed value with NRMA and a 50min phone conversation, you are right, it was quite expensive.

Ken Tame is now a part of Allianz and was originally a broker company and you werent actually underwritten by his company

    Allianz Australia Insurance Limited & Ken Tame & Associates Pty Ltd - Notifications - N95654 & N95655

Was another company who did the same for modified vehicles who I used but I think they have gone as cant find a reference to them any more

You will find most insurers, independent or not have an underwriter, allianz is one of the largest underwriters.

I would say, he moved his underwriting to Allianz, back in the past you didn't have to state who your underwriter was, but now you do.

Vw extended warranty is under written by Allianz. Commonwealth bank insurance eta

As long as you have read the find print, told them about any modifications and you have a road worthy legal vehicle you are all good.

you will find that the specialist insurers are cheaper as they understand what you are insuring.

I found that when i insured my Boat, a lot of big name companies gave me huge premiums, and conditions such as not being able to see the boat from the road.

When i started to get quotes from boat only insurance companies, after a tip from a mate, the premiums and terms were a lot better.

Found the same when it came to insurance from my Can Am Commander, a motorbike insurance came out better as well.
