So it's likely i need a new DPF for my 2012 multivan highline cfca 4motion. Any tips on hunting one down? Apparently the 4motion and 2wd dpf are different, making this a rare beast. I'm in Sydney but it might end up making sense shipping interstate. Thanks

Or even internationally if you've got the time.
What's the cost of the parts in Australia from VW or other local providers?
It looks like the part number is 7E0 254 700 JX (although the last characters could be different in later revisions, not sure as my parts listing is getting older everyday).
Some examples that Google turned up, no word on their quality or anything else let alone any willingness (or cost) to ship to Australia.

Another not necessarily useful link is this one to place in WA which sadly don't publish prices, but I'm sure can answer your questions pretty quickly.

Or a place which seems to specialise in cleaning in Mascot:

You could have it cleaned?

In Sydney contact Western Filters, they can bake it clean. dpfcleaning.com.au I think.
Will be a few places with the industrial oven to do so in Syd I reckon.
Way cheaper than a new one.

Thanks heaps for the leads, i find out this morning if it's survived a clean or if it has some internal damage as suspected
If it's screwed and you don't want to fork out for a new genuine one, there's always this:
Transporter T5.1 2.0 TDI CR DPF Delete Downpipe
You'd need a suitable delete tune, Darkside do very low to no soot tunes too...
Just saying....

Why worry about legality these days , with the world hurtling towards EV cars why concern yourself with a DPF , the only time it would be detected is if you go for a complete inspection by one of the various State Authorities . I have been pulled over by both Qld Transport and Qld Police not one of them bothered to check if the van was "legal " I even goaded a Qld Transport inspector when pulled over as it was clear as could be that the Lion Insignia on my Holden One tonner wheels was NOT VW standard . His reply was that they only want to check if a car is safe ie lights working tyres etc . I thanked him and drove away laughing at that one . I have said before if our DPF goes to lunch it will also go to lunch and never get back on the van .
Thanks all, DPF survived the clean despite being suspected to be faulty. Fingers crossed old turbos now rebuilt was the cause and solution for this one. Maybe it was just age of the DPF though apparently the levels reported on diagnostics weren't too high. Guess I will know soon enough!
