Humming noise under bonnet 2011 T5

I have a 2011 DC T5 4motion, and it has 17000kms on the clock. As of a few weeks ago I have noticed a humming noise comming from under the bonnet, this is very evident when I turn the ignition off and the car is sitting there , but the noise gradually goes after about 10 seconds or so, I am allso hearing the noise when I am driving slow mainly in carparks ect in firt gear. I have opened the bonnet while the noise is evident and its comming from somewere just under the windscreen and on the top of the motor, I think there are some pipes and a small round filter of some kind there in the same area.
If you guys could fill me in on what could be causing this and allso what I should do to fix it it would be really appreciated becasue this is really starting to get to me.

I think your probably correct, after I did some googling the part you mention seems to be were I hearw the humming.
Do you think I will I will be ok to keep driving it till the next sceduled service, or is this something that can make things worse over time?, allso what could be causing is, is it a part failure?

not real sure, but i think you could keep driving cause i think if it chucks it completely you will just go into limp mode. dont hold me to that though. as far as why, well thats hard to say. i have a t5 and i think, why not? seems to happen to everything else.

Our T5 2.5diesel also makes a humming noise when started it sounds like some sort of pumping sound but as usual I havent bothered to get it sorted as it does not stop the van and hasn,t done so for well over 18 months . Howard

Same here when ignition is turned off,although i would say it is in the cabin area in mine.
Edit:Just checked under the bonnet,noise seems to come from the area behind the battery and low down.Pretty sure it's always done it.

Makes me feel a little better knowi know I'm not the only one with this problem, I will get someone to look at it for me in the next service, unless it gets worse before then. All I do know is that it never use to make this noise.
