    Help with broken aerial lead!

    Hi All,
Was just hoping someone might be able to help me with a problem I have with my T5. I bought the van last week (its a 2005 model) and the radio reception was non existent. I have checked and, for some reason, someone has broken off the small stud fitting that attaches to the windscreen aerial terminal.
Does anyone know where I can get this fitting? Unfortunately the wire has been broken off fairly close to the black amplifier? box hidden under the roof lining so I am going to have to try to join a longer piece of wire to it to get it to reach the windscreen (on this - would anyone know what type of wire / cable to use)?

    All advice greatly appreciated!
    Cheers
    Andrew

If all else fails you can fit an external aerial which should do the job I fitted an aerial from the Nissan X-trail its powered so it can be connected easily , you can buy them from auto stores Do Not buy from Nissan themselves

How did you go about fixing the aerial to make sure you don't get any leaks (or rust forming)?

Just drill the hole with a hole saw then paint the cut edge with metal primer the aerial has its own seals but I used a neutral cure silicone sealant as it guarantees total water seal and rust prevention . You can access the area to install by removing the sunglass holder insert in the roof trim inside or just remove the trim completely run the aerial wire down to the head unit you may need a Fakra adaptor as VW use these you may need to ad a little extra bit of wire to the power connector as its short by a couple of cm . This wire only needs to be connected to a12volt source when the ignition and radio is on . Aftermarket radios etc have a blue "Pcon" wire just for this purpose .I payed $79 at local Autobarn but you can buy online cheaper by a couple of $ link here Ryda Car Audio - Aerpro AP199 Nissan X-Trail 2001-Up($66.25)

That is really helpful - thanks so much! I imagine the reception is loads better than the original windscreen aerial so I think I might go this way myself. Really appreciate your help.
