Group Buy - Anyone interested in lining carpet...? SYD
Hi Guys
I'm looking to source some high quality lining carpet to do my SWB T5. The likelihood is that it's going to be the Superliner carpet from PR Floors (google for more info). Having been spoilt for choice in the UK on my van build there, I'm now trying to figure out what's what in Aus!
The carpet is supplied 2m wide, and I will use 10mx2m to line the sides and roof of my T5. What I wanted to know is would anyone else be interested in a group buy? If I order a 30m x 2m roll (enough for 3 x SWB T4/T5s), I can get it in at about the $25-28/m length (2m wide - inc GST), which beats the $40/m that some suppliers are charging locally. I'm likely to order mid grey, but if there are enough interested parties, I could get a roll of another colour too.
Let me know if you could be keen. No money would need to exchange hands until I have the carpet here at my place in Sydney (between Ryde/Parramatta) and payment would be on collection. Obviously, if I could get enough interest to get more than 1 roll, prices will come down even more...
Also trying to source a wholesale supplier of spray adhesive. Any ideas? I've looked at the bulk spray canisters with external applicator/gun, but these aren't cost effective unless I want to be lining multiple vans. Something I'm thinking of doing, but not just yet!

As a motor trimmer myself retired by the way so DO NOT ask about me doing the work in Qld , I can advise on this one Hull Liner is the preferred choice as it is flexible and gives a velour like finish and you can do a whole side wall in one single piece . I purchased mine from Nolan's UDA they are Australia wide , as for the glue they also have 4 litre and 20 litre drums of spray adhesive which is exceptional for this sort of work . As for application a cheapo spray gun from Super Cheap does the job I still use one in my current work 1 litre capacity $50 you could hire a compressor if needed . If the roof is the standard masonite I would just recover in a specific hood trim velour because you will not get the original cross roof strips and those holding clips back in with the carpet covering them . If you look at the one in this link http://www.vwwatercooled.com.au/foru...r-99380-2.html you will see that just carpeting is only half the job if you want a quiet van , soundproofing is the key to a nice ride . Oh forgot to add when covering the roof trims with any material you need to shave about 2.5 to3 mm along the sides and then across the rear trim as the carpet glued to the walls will stop the roof trims from fitting correctly . This is my family drive but a bit more work than just a standard carpet job . New T5 Project And this one on my sons T4 a bit different again with combination colours to break up the one colour look Transporter, Multivan, Caravelle Photography Thread - Pics only! - Page 22

Thanks for confirming that the Superliner is good for the job. I've done sound deadening, insulation and lining on a few vans back in the UK - my T4 pop top camper, T5 LWB crewvan and Caddy. Also did a friend's VW sprinter camper and another friend's T5, so I'm fairly confident on doing the work.
Wasn't aware that the solvent spray adhesive could be used in a compressor. I've got a compressor, so will just pick up a spray gun and some spare tips/nozzles. Do you use a top feed or bottom feed gun?

Just a simple 1 litre bottom pot syle will do no need for any other nozzles just make sure that the one you get has airflow control then width of spray and level of glue flow adjuster . To be honest they used to use putty guns but a normal paint sprayer will do the job . As a matter of interest I can leave the glue gun unused for weeks at a time and it works again with out having to strip it down . If required you can clean up with General Purpose Thinners . I checked today with Nolans $25.45 plus GSt for cut length or around $18 plus GSt for a25 metre roll , they call it Autex Flexliner Autex Flex Liner | Nolan.UDA

I get my stretch carpet from Daleys , they are at Villawood in Sydney the rolls are 2m wide and its about $30m. They have a few choices and have a wide range of other carpets / accessories
I also just spray Sika contact adhesive from bunnings through an air compressor spray gun. maybe its my set up but it can be a bit inconsistent in coverage and spit a bit when you spray it, but it sticks well enough. Just be careful where you point the gun!
