Getting an extended warrenty on secondhand T5 multivan

    Hi guys
I'm picking up my 2011 Multivan on Saturday and the dealler is trying to push an extended warrenty on me . Lots of clauses about servicing every 6 months or 10k with fixed price servicing even though they a Toyota dealler. I will have to pay for any extra parts stated in the manual to ensure it meets their requirements. The problem is i would only cover about 8k a year. I can fix everything myself and have a VagCom.
Has anyone else gone down the extended warranty road?
Its 2k for 5 years which is cheap but the cost will add up.

An extended warranty by a Toyota dealer (which is porbably specific to that dealer performing the services) would not be worth the paper its written on ......

If the servicing log book is up to date, get a VW extended warranty which will mean once a year or 15K km servicing and would actually cover you for more ..... cost be similar but possibly be a bit more. Real peace of mind (given the Multivan has a DSG box) is priceless though.

With the mileage you are doing, the mileage on the van & the fact that you normally do your own servicing, I would give the extended warranty a miss.
These warranties are written to benefit the insurer & to make money for them. It will cost you money to comply & you may be at their mercy if something goes wrong. I won't bore you with details of stories that I have heard from friends who have had bad experiences with these warranties.
The choice is yours & depends if you are comfortable without one.
Understand how it works, troubleshoot logically BEFORE replacing parts.

I understand that a VW factory extended warranty is not available for Multivan, it being a commercial.

I tried to buy it and was referred by VW Customer Service to a VW dealer to get a dealer extended warranty, which is a re-branded insurance product that has very little in common with a VW factory extended warranty. One issue can be the maximum price cap per item. For example, if the new DSG is $15K, the warranty could be limiting single item's contribution to $5k.
