I have been chasing intermittant hard cold start problems for a while untill they became constant problems... I tried all the usual suspects; Cranking voltage OK, glow plug continuity, voltage to glow plugs, anti shudder valve open. Along the way I found the coolant temp sensor open circuit. But still really hard to start. After eventually getting it running I see the clear fuel delivery line is a constant stream of bubbles - GREAT , I found a problem. The cause is a bit odd though. The sender & pick unit in the fuel tank has a split in the plastic that allows air and fuel to be ingested. I guess this is why it has been intermitant - only when the tank was low (although I am guessing)
Has anyone repaired one of these? I can find no mention on here or TDIclub.
Havin fun,

New one to me...well spotted though.
