    Fitting OEM RVC?

    Hi all,

We took delivery of our new black Multivan Comfortline 103Kw 2 weeks ago and have been really impressed with it so far. One thing I'm keen to do is upgrade the stereo. After a lot of research, I narrowed the choices down to an RNS510 or the Zenec (I want to keep the MFD and it appears that these are the only 2 that will support it and give me GPS). The Zenec I decided against because it would end up much the same price as the OEM after I fit BT etc... I did consider getting the Zenec from overseas but wasn't sure about the map updates.

So the only sticking point is what to do about a reversing camera. Does anyone know if a generic RVC will work with the RNS unit? If not, how much of a palaver is it to fit an OEM camera to the van?
On a side note, I was planning on getting the RNS through jku.com.au. Anyone had experience with these guys?

    Cheers,

    Tim

ps - Thanks for all your help in my research. This forum was invaluable when doing my homework on the van etc.

I had the Zenec unit fitted to 2 vans at work. After 3 months not that impressed. My one constantly drops GPS signal.
The second unit has had the touch screen fail so waiting on a service to get it replaced.
The only up side is the reverse camera with it.
If I had my time again I would be fitting the RNS510.

Getting the wires to the back is not too hard but there are sections that I have not explored. If you remove the roof panels there is a channel where all the wires run to the rear of the van. I have not played with the roof panels over the passenger seat.
Also at the tailgate, there is a rubber gromet behind or just above the number plate that looks idea to run a reverse camera.

I have been looking into this myself. A generic RVC will not work with RNS510. The RNS510 has an RGBs input.

The cheapest composite to RGB converter I found was at Ampire Electronics - German Automotive Entertainment, but it is about $180 delivered and then you can fit any NTSC camera to your RNS510 (After you change settings with VAGCOM). The ampire unit has a connector to go straight into RNS510. There are other converters out there, but some only convert to RGB sync on green not RGBS. www.carconverter.com.au have a suitable converter as well.

Other option is OEM. Found a retrofit kit at Kufatec, but at 650 odd euros I will give it a miss.

I am still undecided what to do.

I fitted one of these to my mates 2011 T5 on the weekend ordered antenae booster plus can bus plug , worked perfectly the easiest wire up yet it just plugged in with the adaptor and it worked perfect . Mounted the rear camera just above the rear number plate ran the wire to the front inside the roof trim and plugged in the factory harness already had the rear camera trigger wire built in , the unit has built in GPS and all the other functions listed on the page , once installed it fitted absolutly perfectly in the dash looks like it came from factory . Price all up $456 delivered in 5 days .ES978AU 8" HD Car DVD Player GPS TMC DVB-T PiP SWC VW SKODA PASSAT CADDY TOURAN | eBay

Tempting... but ideally I still want the MFD to work (song titles, nav directions etc). Do you know if your mate's steering wheel buttons all work with this unit?

    Cheers,

Sorry for got to mention his a base model 103 very little in bells and whistles the head unit does have bluetooth with touch screen so you never have to touch your phone plus it will access your phone book as well , digital TV . GPS which works while you are listening to any other source radio CD DVD SD card even Ipod etc so as you drive you can see and hear directions at each turn point without having to change any settings the GPS also has full trip computer with travel logging .
