Blocking the EGR off will fill the DPF up quickly. It'll probably be ok with a clean out.

MY10 2L Diesel has thrown up a fault light which after a scan told me 'exhaust gas flow insufficient detected' or something along those lines...I have a couple of questions for anyone who could help me out with this. I had this read a couple of weeks ago, and once read the warning light on dash was out (engine light). It came back on today.Bad timing for me as I have a couple of long drives ahead.Given this is a ERG problem do you think it would be ok to drive 2000 kms or so before I deal with the problem? The other thing is given this is the second ERG in my van I would like to delete the whole thing! This model has a DPF which makes the delete not feasible I have been told. Technically speaking (not legally) could you rip the guts out of the DPF and do the delete and remap successfully or would there be another solution?Any information would be much appreciated thanks.

I researched this issue some time back this company seem to have some solutions but its around 2 k for the job . Apparently if the DPF goes and you replace it at a dealer with factory parts it can be up to 7 or 8K DPF Blocked - Time to think DPF Delete - Chip Tuning Australia
Apparently the DPF thing is not considered a rule for Aus .But if you do it and get caught there would be a problem , but lets face facts it would be almost impossible to police it .
The Egr from what I have read lowers the combustion temperature so VW can then lean the fuel mixture and get better fuel economy.
I had the egr die just before my last service. They installed a new one, then a week later the light came back on. Long story short they found a revised egr part was available in Germany, the mechanic said to. Vw Australia he would not put another egr in my t5 unless it was the new part Vw Au agreed and I had to wait 6 weeks for the new part. I now have no problems 3 egrs later. I drove 12000 km with my Egr not working correctly, I was told I could, what I did notice during this time was poorer economy, and loss of power, I also found out I had to drive a gear lower than I would have with my egr working as it should.
I believe you need the Egr but you can drive if it's running a fault without harm, if and when you get a new one make sure it's the revised part or you will just have the same problem again these old Egr's keep failing. Vw know about this and you may be able to get them to give you the part as Goodwill, and then just pay for 6 hours labor and oil used.
