Sorry if I missed it, but what year/model/engine etc. is your van? Is it a 4motion?

John, yours is a diesel? 132kw? (that's my vehicle spec) ... mine supposedly had a "software upgrade" as part of the 15,000km service, but the acceleration lag is still the same. I'm really p****d off about this - and yes, I do consider it to be dangerous. Your description of the issue is exactly as I'm (still) experiencing.
Well that has me slightly peeved when I was ordering mine I wanted auto but was told no way, then had to wait a painfully 7 months for my T5, Amarok does not come with dsg either. Maybe mine being duel can and designed for carrying weight has something to do with it who knows.

2011 T5 4MOTION Duel Cab Optioned up.
The consumer (me) is obliged to take the word of the collar & tie person on the other side of the counter.
He tells me the software upgrade was done, but of course it wasn't he who actually carried it out.
The so-called "report sheet" with the important numbers (like, that's $449.50 thank you very much, sir...) actually says, in response to my pointing out the acceleration lag was an important issue to be corrected, "tested vehicle and unable to fault any abnormal operation: carried out basic setting as required."My request as it appears on the sheet reads "Lag on acceleration from satnd/start (sic). Customer would like this looked at urgently."
If I haven't got this sorted out by the next time we're over your way, I'd love to have a comparison drive to see how yours feels cf mine, which I still feel is simply not good enough to the point of being potentially b****y dangerous.
No worries....and if I am heading to S.A. I'll give you a shout.
Well I have had the software upgrade done at 15000km service (suspect it was just a reset) and for while it was a bit better ....
The symptoms and issues I still have is:
1. lag upon take-off normally about a second after depressing the accellerator FULLY! This is incredibly dangerous as there is no way I can confidently take a gap in traffic from standstill .... EVER
2. whilst rolling slowly, taking a gap has the same 1 second lag before it
3. when it decides to go it is a huge lurch/jump that upsets all the passengers .... never mind the driver who has been sweating blood for the last second seeing an impending crash !!! This jump/lurch is usually accompanied by wheelspin.
4. It is almost always in the wrong gear .... 90% of the time it has preselected the next gear up in order to try and save fuel (which it miserably fails at anyway) and in traffic you actually need the next gear DOWN! so about a half a second is lost while it deselects and then selects the next gear on the alternate clutch pack.
5. It is only quick changing gears when you go through them from a standing start (after 1s wait), in day to day driving its hopeless.
6. it stumbles and lurches for most of its daily drive being very jerky .....
7. about once a day it grinds gears whilst changing .... just like a missed manual shift.
8. I'd rather an auto than the DSG and MUCH RATHER a manual where I can decide what gear I want and when. Not some spastic computer. (and thats rich for somebody whose worked in the IT industry for 15+years previously)
9. I used to be against the DSG and people kept saying, you have to try it, well I have now for 15+months and I dislike it with a passion now ....
10. If I have an accident due to this DSG I will sue VW .....
May try to drive another DSG equipped MV to see if my case is isolated, but somehow I don't think so.

Sharkie, I don't have any of those issues and mine is going in for the new software update as well as a pair of new clutches on the 28th so if mine starts acting like that, I will let you know but that indeed does sound like a rather isolated case...

Same here Sharkie.....I have none of the issues you describe. IMO, you have a faulty DSG/computer.
Last week, I had the engine warning light and glow plug light come on the dash several times. The van then went into limp mode. After switching off the van and then switching it on again, it was ok to drive. Sometimes the engine warning light would stay on, other times it would go away.
Plugged in the vagcom, and it had EGR faults listed. Took it to my dealer, and they fitted a new EGR valve/unit. While the valve was faulty, I had lag issues again, but now that it is fixed, it is driving just fine.
I took printouts of the vagcom scan to the dealer to show them. I did not clear the faults. The dealer plugged their computer into my van, but no EGR faults showed up.
