    Diesel/LPG conversions

    Hi all,
My other half has the greenie bug, and the black smoke from the back under acceleration is one concern. I want additional power and better fuel consumption. I've been considering the diesel/lpg conversion as done by Diesel Gas Australia:
DieselGas is a self-learning LPG injection system that can increase economy, power and fuel burn up to 98%
And was wondering if anyone here has done the conversion, and what the results are?

This is a review from Autospeed:

I also wonder what the comparison would be with something like an Oettinger remap.

Might be cheaper to just buy the new blue motion golf in the long run,
but its only a 1.6 TDI (3.8l/100) not the power thing your looking for.
Have a cousin who had the gas conversion to a diesel rodeo and loves it but he
is doing the Km's to justify it.

I didn't know we could get seven into the new blue motion golf ...
I sold our Golf V TDI. It was dieselpower chipped and ran really well, but the T5 is a bit sluggish by comparison.

A retired mate down the road has it on his landcruiser. Not sure if it is a turbo but I suspect it is. Being retired he travels a fair bit with his dual axle off road full height caravan and he said that he got his money back on his first trip. He's had it on for a few years now.

    I'm skeptical about it. Why?

They recommend that, if your car is new and under the warranty you should take their own a new car warranty insurance. In Autospeed link, the test car Sangyong had 70% increase in CO gases and slightly more smoke (particles of unburned fuel).

My 2 bobs worth. I have a 98 Rodeo turbo. At 320k I took the plunge (do a lot of long distance driving) and had it converted to Gas by a agent. Not the Gas people in Adelaide. 1000 k later took it back saying gas consumption was way to much. They supposedly adjusted it and I was still concerned after 15000 motor blew itself apart big time. Complete rebuild then took to Adelaide where it was adjusted again.

Thursday this week after 20k the main bearing has gone not happy Jan. Unfortunatly I have lost most of the fuel dockets receipts but the sh*** is going to hit the fan this week..
My impressions get it done by the diesel gas people themselves not by bloody agents.
Keep all fuel dockets for at least 3 years
    Keep comparrisons of fuel milage.

Mine was giving me a saving of about 1.5 l/100k so overall wasnt a big saving. The performance was amazing though and my ute never went over 4000 on the rev counter.

would i be stupid to ask if this technology would work on an older diesel golf
engine code AAZ basically indirect injection, no ecu
the website doesn't give you much info regarding how it works, prices ect

My investigation with respect to doing this to an ACV engine on a 2001 T4 suggested that I wouldn't get bang for buck. Especially given the $4k to $6K asking price. The units on offer (even the new generation units) appear to be best suited for low tech high capacity turbo diesels like truck engines and earlier 4x4 engines.

Highly strung pump dusse and common rail diesels get much less operational benefit from the gas injection....simply because they are efficient to begin with.

If thee were me then I'd invest first in a fuel pump calibration & injector optimisation service (something like that offered by Berrima Diesel Service or Cooma Diesel Service ) and then move on to a remap if required

Seano- and others - thanks for your comments. It's a big spend for some gain that cannot be quantified.
One of the main reasons for doing this was that I feel we are not getting the consumption or power we were getting when new. Seano, I think you may have hit the nail on the head with the suggestion of fuel pump calibration and injector optimisation.
Any recommendations who would be able to do this in Adelaide?

A partially blocked cat can also do that Shogun

And you'll know when it's fully blocked!
