    Diesel Idle

I have just purchased a VW Transporter Crew Van 4motion with the 132kw diesel motor.

Can anyone tell me what that idle speed should be for a diesel motor like this?

It is currently idling around 900rpm which seems way too fast to me but not sure as it is my first diesel.

    Cheers
    Andy

actually it seems to change. this engine seems to have a roll on idle of about 1000rpm that will then drop when actually stop rolling. I guess its to help save the clutch in traffic. it will also idle higher from time to time which i assume is DPF stuff

When we refer to the idle speed, we mean; car stationery, all accessories off incl. A/C and engine fan too, in neutral or park for auto, engine at operating temperature. Then let the engine rpm stabilised before you take the reading.

Thanks for the replies.. I will have to have a look at using a an OBDII reader on it to see what else I can find out.
I have been using a Greddy Informeter on my Nissan I just sold.

I use a Mac and I don't think the software is compatible with Mac's so will have to see what else I can find out.
A mate has this cable so I can get him to look at the car from time to time.
As I Failed when ordering and did not option the MFD display and from all I can work out I can not build it in now for a reasonable cost so want something that will display fuel usage and other bits and pieces
