A day behind the wheel .

Yesterday I had a small repair job in a town called Lawrence in northern NSW inland from Yamba , so headed south from Brisbane unaware of the impending drama ahead . Just south of Ballina on the Pacific Highway an ominous cloud could be seen ahead a huge Bushfire ! Just made it through before they closed the highway , so the return trip had to be via the New England Highway as all other roads back to Brissie were closed so a 430 km round trip ended up being a 940 km round trip . The van ran like a dream all day long as its comfortable and sitting up high gives agreat view . Even though its a lowly 2.0 petrol engine with nearly 350000 kays on she still goes well , its a bit underpowered when going up the range between Grafton and Glen Innes but with some furious paddling of gears I was able to keep up with normal cars . Down the other side of the range i was able to show those cars the back end of the van as I hate those who crawl uphill and then brake all the way downhill . So by days end i used one tank of fuel and a top up at Stanthorpe on the way back . These vans are so good on a long trip that I am glad I have had a good run with this old girl . The Cree Led bar came in handy on a back road from New England Hy to Gatton via Gatton Clifton Rd when a kangaroo was standing about a metre in from the edge , I think the light stunned him so he didn,t move and at 100kays it could have been a disaster . So left home at 8.30 am arrived home 10pm a long day , thank you VW for making a comfy drive .

I hope you charge for travel
I don't...but I'd have to change my rules for those distances.
An yes...they are a great vehicle for long distances...got 1200km a tank on my last long trip.

It was an insurance job on a damaged sunroof in a Ford , the insurance company paid handsomely for the trip and it made it very worthwhile regardless of the time and distance . My old 2005 T5 2.o litre petrol is not as economical as the diesels so I dont get as much out of a tank of fuel .
