    Correct storage position for jack

Which way around should the jack face when it's bolted into its storage position on the back of the passenger side rear wheel arch?

Might sound like a dumb question but the jack was just loose in the back of the van when I got it.

It's in the rigid black plastic sleeve with all the tools clipped in but which way round does that go against the wheel arch?

Is it (1) jack foot down, tools facing arch, back of plastic sleeve facing out?

Or (2) jack foot down, back of plastic sleeve facing arch, tools facing out?

Or one of the above with the jack foot up?

Oops, sorry - I just found a big enough photo of inside the back of another T4 to see how it goes - foot down, tools in, plastic sleeve back facing out.

Can you please post the photo - or a link to the photo - I'm not sure my kit is complete. I don't have any tools with the jack. Thanks.

Is this photo of a T4 or a T5. And is it in another current thread?

Sorry, these are just photos I had already taken and they are loaded into my photobucket. There should be somewhere for you to screw it into your wheel arch - what year is your T4? Mine is a 2003.

This is without the plastic cover/tool holder -

I am going to get another one of these jacks and stick it my baywindow kombi - they are easy enough for me to use

i am very wary of using these jacks on my T5, i certainly do not trust them after using it once to change a wheel.

Here's the pic I used to figure out mine. The threaded rod (which is missing on mine and costs $27 new from VW) screws into a socket that's sticking out the back of the wheel arch. I know what the rod looks like because I've seen the parts page from the VW microfishe (but lost the print out I was given - d'oh!)

Don't know whose the pic is, sorry - probably saved off CarsGuide.

BTW, thanks for the great pix, Melissa - it's the simple stuff sometimes that's really useful.

The bench seat was the first thing I took out of my T4!!! LOL

Its very uncomfortable - and there is no way I was having anyone sit in the front next to me while I was driving and trying to change gears with my hand between their legs!!! Might be ok for an auto but no good for a manual.

I put a single seat in so that I could have my walkthrough back as well.

I have kept my bench seat though - if ever I wanted to sell my kombi it would still have the option of being the 9 seater it originally came from the factory as.
