Manufacturers do a lot of things to save a few cents as you point out.

On one of the small bodied Commodores they removed a sandwich plate out of the rear damper mount to save 50c. They were doing 40k cars per year at the time so I guess it was worth the $20k saved. It's a shame they started flexing & clunking after 6 months

Okay enough I think I have made my point yes I agree with Transporter to a point , $2 saving over a couple of million would be justified by the builders . I may have to have another look at the new T6 as the price the Cricks dealer gave me was way off the prices quoted by loads of reviewers . Interesting find in QLD the dealers charge $1995 for delivery cost no insurance duty or rego just a dealer price for washing the van before delivery what a rip .

Well my Transporter should be on its third auto in 260,000km if I could be bothered fixing it instead of placing on order on a Vito or T6 in the next few weeks. I think that's pathetic and solely the fault of me being stupid and following the factory service manual to the exact letter and only dealer servicing for the first 200,000km of my vans life.

And going back on topic, why are T5 front seats wider then T5gp and T6, my jean size has remained the same in case you want to know

Hey mate, before you buy Vito, go through it with the magnifying glass. I've picked up my 4x4 Sprinter on the 4th of November and my old T5 looks like the VW didn't spare any expense during designing and manufacturing process in comparison to the MB.

I agree with Tornado on the early T5 auto , I also followed the VW NON service procedure until it became a box of broken parts .Blocked filter coupled with burnt decaying fluid is not what I expected from supposed smart engineers , I will say it again VW do not test their cars here so the real world we Aussies experience is very different to a few weeks of testing in Iceland or Nevada .End of rant where's the Tylenol !!!

Cheers, the Vito is more stylish and looks new whereas the T6 looks like an update, I just wish VW Aust was more flexible with power train and body combinations. Would love to hear your feedback where appropriate.

I would loved to have the option of the 2.0 petrol turbo model that was according to early reports one of the alternative power trains 150 kw sounds sweet . .
