after removing the unit and finding a rubber boot around the actuator had split a rubber chair leg cap was fitted then secured.seals great.no thanks to unhelpful,greedy krauts..

i`m chasing a part #02w525641a which is called a throttle control element,the krauts at vw want way too much.
any help would be muchly appreciated.

Good outcome by the sound of it , sometimes you just have to nut out an alternative fix . I know I have and saved lots of money in the process , how much did VW want for it ?
Back a year or ten, I had a friend needed to replace the ball on the gear linkage of his Ford Falcon. Seems you could only buy the whole unit at a ridiculous price, but the spares attendant recommended he go down the road to Mitsubishi where you could get an identical ball by itself for a handful of cents.
I agree Kiels it seems that car companies these days are doing two things with parts , one they work on the basis that if a part is going to fail under warranty it is quicker and more cost effecient to replace the whole unit rather than pulling it apart to fix a simple $2 part . Secondly it saves the cost of sending from say Europe loads of small parts that make up a unit so they save on freight packaging and then stocking it at the dealers . I encounter this on a regular basis with sunroofs in cars that I work on . I repair lots of BMW X5's Mercedes Benz C Class coupes with sunroofs , if a simple part of these roofs break I have to buy a whole kit from those manufacturers . But I can go online and buy the simple one part that does break from overseas and fix the job for a tiny fraction of what the repair kit would cost . In the X5 case they have twin sliding blinds and there is a plastic link arm joining the two together . I can buy those link arms overseas for under $30 including freight , but here in Australia I have to buy a complete "repair kit " at over $600 all of the remaing kit is just waste as it does not break or wear out .
Going back 30 years ago my brother owned a Porche on a trip to Brisbane the Altinator went he went to the dealer in QLd as he was up on holidays
they had non in stock but told him some rediculious figure But the Mechenic told him to go to the Volvo Dealer as he thought both used the same Bosch unit
And it was ,the difference was the BOX and it was half the price ,
He also had an old MERCEDIES which need new front wheel bearings He got the price off Mercedies then went to Bearing services
would you believe the the same bearings are in the Valiant and were 60% cheaper Same Number stamped on both?

Not unusual these days even back in the late nineties the interior light of the VS Commodore was the same as the one in the same year Ford when you turned it over there was a Ford part number and below it the GMH part number .
