change a fuel filter on tdi t4/prime fuel system

right no better day then today to replace fuel filter, local garage dint do although i asked, i now understand why..

none the less.i bought this u beaut 350 $bentley t4 manual and its not helping..

i removed filter and put new filter back in, manual doesn't stayed fill filter or not, i assumed that since it does not say to fill it not to fill it, to for come contamination in your fuel system.

but how do i prime the fuel system, there is no hand primmer, is there a lift pump in the tank ?

also there is a white plastic valve that sits on top of the filter, it has a line in and out, im pretty sure it sits on the return side of system, what doe it do ?
    thanks, mick

Simplest way I've found to do it for the DIY-er, is to loosen all the lines coming out of the injector pump, and crank it until diesel starts dribbling out of them. It doesn't take long to bleed the system up. Far easier than replacing the filter itself.

When I change the filter I fill with fresh fuel. It starts as if nothing had been touched, not even the slightest hiccup.

Understand how it works, troubleshoot logically BEFORE replacing parts.
