    Question Chairs

Bought a 1995 T4 about a month ago and took her for its first long drive (up to Inskip Point near Fraser Island in QLD).

She is a dream to drive but the seats ain't that comfy.

Was wondering if anyone had swapped the seats before...

Now ideally the wish list would include captains seats with passenger swivel seat and a height adjustable driver seat but I know this is most likely asking too much.

Is it worth doing it and what are the best donor seats?

or should I just leave it alone?

Hey Robbob (cain toad?) I don't see any reason why front seats out of a T5 wouldn't work, if you can find a wrecking one.
They're both captains chairs with height adjustment, but you'll be pushed to find swivel.
But also if you can find one, some front seats out of a T4 Caravelle might just be the go, and should fit straight in.
I've had 98 and 04 T4s, found the seats excellent. Are yours shot?

He has some captains Caravelle seats.
There are quite a few seats from the VW Audi range that fit just find ones with flat bottoms on the runners.
You could always buy some Audi TT seats like i had in my silver T4 camper.

Drivers seat foam is shot, passenger is fine.

Its more for my partner as she has long legs and a bad right foot so she needs her thigh to be parallel to the floor (higher).
Swivel would be handy but I can live without it.

Anybody had experence putting T5 seats in a T4 before?

Also if someone could post pictures of some T4 caravelle or T5 captains seats that would be a big help.

Swivel bases are available - but expensive. This company is at Rocklea.

You could also get your existing seats re-foamed by a motor trimmer and probably armrests added, I know my T4 seats appear to have mounting holes for armrests. Pull off the cover and have a squizz, it's not difficult, just remove the headresr, tilt the seat back and unhook the nylon strip at the bottom of the back, then pull the cover off like a jumper.

    Deeceer,
You are correct in your findings about there being holes where the arm rests would go, but thats not the end of it....
The VW Captains seats have extra bracketing that criss crosses the back of the seat from where the holes are down to the base.
There is also a brace that goes across between the holes.
These items have to be in place because of the stress that is forced through the seat upright.
This discussion has been talked about on the UK forums lots and lots because the captains seats are very expensive to purchase second hand.
Some people were driving to Germany to collect as many captains seats as possible and selling them in the UK.
There was a part number on the VW computer for the bracing i am talking about but i believe it had to be welded into the seat frame.

Those FASP seat swivels that you linked to are the best made swivels i have seen.
I have seen many different ones made including two sheets of steel with a blot through it in the middle!!!
    Cheers Rob
