    Caravelle SWB 4Motion 265/65R17 Wheels

Hi Folks, Can I safely fit Amarok 245/65R17 wheels and tyres on my 2010 SWB Caravelle 4Motion? I have looked through the threads and can't discern a definitive answer.
    Thanks in advance.

I run 245/65/R17 on amarok rims on my 2008 transporter with no rubbing.
the same can not be said for 265/65R17.
245/65R17 is ok but the diameter starts getting really big and the torque loss can be an issue when driving offroad. Will be fine on the highway however.

edit: my rims are 17" not 16"

Thanks Bertie T5. That is good to know. Another option I have is 245/70R16. What I am trying to do is find a wheel/tyre combination that would be a little less harsh that the 205/65R16C. The tyre options sticker on the door frame seems to indicate that 235/60R17 on 7 inch rims can be run on 280/260 kpa when lightly loaded, considerably less that the standard 205/65R16C. What pressure do you use?

For a less harsh ride you would generally want a higher profile tyre which will be more inclined to take up bumps in the road instead of transferring the harshness to the wheel and eventually your bum.

Think about the difference between driving with rubber bands for tyres and driving with normal tyres.

In general for a given pressure, wheel size etc. higher profile = more comfortable.

Running lower pressure in my opinion should be done with higher profile tyres not lower.

Finally a supporter of my feelings on this subject , rubber bands are not as some think a good idea these vans weigh around 1.8 tonnes and need all the rebound that the correct tyre wheel combination can give . As I have stated before I tried low profile tyres on some 17s a few years back and ditched the tyres within a month or so to save myself the lousy ride they gave . I see no reward from exceeding manufacturers specs not only from comfort side but insurance compliance as well .

I decided to go with the 245/70R16 Amarok wheels. So after I got the wheels home came the fitting... that's when things got interesting. These rims catch on the disc calipher - maybe 1mm too small on the rim inside diameter. What to do now...

I thought you were going to fit 17,s because thats what you said at the start , why did you change down to 16,s I think most people would agree 17,s are the most popular and have no issues with caliper clearance . Time to get out the angle grinder ? no only kidding , as Bertie had already said no problems with 17s.

I decided on the 16s for two reasons. 1. They had 70 aspect ratio and 2. they were in Brisbane. The 17s were in Mackay and $300 more expensive. In hindsight they would have been the better deal even at the price and the freight. Now I have a set of 5 265/70R16 wheels to off-load.That will be fun... not!
