Can you get a VW extended wty for a 2nd hand vehicle

    Hi,

Looking at purchasing a Multivan that's still within original warranty, but won't be for much longer. I'd like to get the extended warranty from VW but it's not clear from their website if I can as I'm not the original owner of the car. Any clarification with this much appreciated

    Thanks

    Welcom aboard _ds.

    I believe you can.

And it is worthwhile searching on here to find a VW dealer that sells the extended warranty a lot cheaper than some other dealers do.
2017 MY18 Golf R 7.5 Wolfsburg wagon (boring white) delivered 21 Sep 2017, 2008 Octavia vRS wagon 2.0 TFSI 6M (bright yellow), 2006 T5 Transporter van 2.5 TDI 6M (gone but not forgotten).

I've rung a few VW dealers, but it's a hit and miss affair finding one who knows much about the things they sell.

I've been able to get a price of $1600 which, looking through a number of threads here, seems to be a reasonable price.

    Hi ds, and welcome.

I've just purchased the extended warranty for my Trakkadu camper (essentially a Transporter as far as the warranty is concerned) through Burwin's in Ferntree Gully (Vic) for $1400.00 They were happy to match the best quote I'd got elsewhere (as mentioned in another thread on here), after initially coming in at $1700. I got mine six months before the original factory warranty expired (it will only start when the other expires) because I wasn't sure how long the discount pricing would last. In fact, when I was finalising it the guy said that the 'standard' price had just increased, but held to his quote.
Multivan pricing may be higher (more gizmos to go wrong), but still worth checking. As far as being a second owner, I can't see why it should be a problem, provided you can document that it has had all it's scheduled servicing.

The display sign on the Burwin's service centre desk last week showed it at $1900 for 3yr/60,000km. When was the discounted special offer? From what I read, as long as you purchase the extended warranty before the factory warranty expires all is good. IIRC, you must also prove that all scheduled services have been carried out if it hasn't been dealer serviced.

    Hi Tornado,

There was no special offer 'period', just haggling based on a 'group deal' someone else on this forum had organised (you'll have to use the search function, but it was a dealership in Wollongong). They said the actual RRP was about $2200 but offered it for $1700 without me even asking. I said I'd research it and came back with the $1400 (ish) price from Wollongong, and they matched it. I took it up now, because who knows how long that pricing will last.

On a related note, I finally got a reply from VW Australia re the new model Multivans. Here's the bit that matters:

"The new face lifted Volkswagen Multivan is due to be release in March 2010, pricing and specifications will also be released around this date."

Definately a good deal, well done. I had a warranty replacement auto gearbox a few months ago and the thought of paying for it gives me massive "heartburn".

Just thinking out aloud, specs released in March '10 for T5.5, order soon after, wait 4 months means delivery in July '10, missing out on GST claim back for prior June '10 qrt in my case, so I might as well order in early Oct '10 and get a '11 plated car, have a lower payout figure on my current finance...and dealers will be more likely to discount....sorry for going o/t.
