cab chassis window.

I have a 2001 t4 cab chassis that needs a new driver's side rear window. It is the sliding type and the small panel at the rear. I have chased this with VW Aust.to no avail. Can anyone help?

Forget it. No longer available new even in Germany and spectacularly expensive even when it was. I was quoted $1,200 back in 2003. Wrecker is one option but your best bet would be a marine or motorhome window maker. They'll be able to sort something that will both fit and work far better than the original. It won't be cheap (but cheaper than VW) but it will be effective.

The other low budget alternative is a fixed portion of tinted Lexan, drilled and installed with security bolts.

Its a VEEDUB I recently got a quote from VW for 4 x fixed side glasses for our new Transporter T5 $2800 supply only !!!!!!!!!!! and from an aftermarket supplier $700 for the lot including primer and the adhesive . At bit over the top are VW prices sometimes . Is the glass dead flat or curved ? as you can get Laminated glass cut to size but not armourfloat it has to be moulded and is a bit pricey .

the glass is flat. The wierd thing about all of this,I have been quoted $150 for a replacement from vw in Germany,but there is no stock and they are redirecting this to the British importers to no avail.

If its flat is there an opposite glass on the other side that you can remove and get copied ?

No mine didn't because I managed to get just the glass and paid about $180 for it...Denlo's stock price on the entire unit was $1,200.

The wrinkle was that the glass was an absolute nightmare to get back into the window unit - the guy who fitted it needed an offsider and an air cam to open the frame enough to get the glass in. They weren't sure what would fail first - their nerves, the glass or the frame itself. I gave them a carton for their trouble on top of the labour charge!!

Save yourself the grief...if I broke mine again (or some prick broke it again) then I'd bin it for a custom job. Or just get a piece of flat tinted Lexan made up.
