    Brake pads

I heard a strange noise today [admits here that any noise in my van is strange as the stereo is normally at ear bleed levels] any way turns out the faithful steed had thrown a shoe . Rang a couple of local stores but allas no one stocks the pads order them in they say , no I will not wait I say . Rang Highway VW and joy pads in stock and surprise cheaper than the others quoted funny that .
But isn,t it typical VW put sensors on the pads on opposing corners and you guessed it the one without sensor is the one thats worn down [small mark on rotor will be okay ] Then another surprise VW brake pads in VW box made in Spain no longer have the sensor !!!!! . Ah the joys of motoring . Howard

I'm surprised that your disc rotors are still ok, I currently have 126,000km on my original pads but the discs are worn so much that they will all have to be replaced soon when the pads hit the metal. That is why I am not worried about getting the last bit out of them and scratching the discs.

The minimum brake pads thickness varies by manufacturer, but it is usually 2-3mm minimum, the reason for it is, that you don't want to boil the brake fluid in the brake calipers (also bad for the caliper seal) or wedge the pads between rotor and the caliper holder.

We're in Brisbane (Acacia Ridge) and carry hundreds of VW pads in stock, all of which will have the sensors, and plenty of Transporter pads... Most of the time for European cars we'll supply Remsa, which are part of the TRW Group, and also main in Spain... I'll let you work that one out!

Sick of paying too much for performance brake pads? Want high performance with low rotor wear?

Hi there GSL and thanks for the info , typical isn,t it after I have done the job someone comes up with an alternative , but I definetly will be in the market for some rotors and more pads as we have 2 t5,s . And for Brian yes I will be replacing the rotors real soon as they have quite a good lip on them as they are the original rotors with 160,000 ks on them so they are well due for renewal. The only reason was I was in dire straights at 4 pm yesterday with a scraping pad and just needed to get some new ones in so as to get todays jobs done . Howard

No dramas mate, got a stack of options on rotors to suit T5 from RDA, DBA and Remsa. Rears are all the same, but depending on model and wheel size the fronts vary.
