It's a big service, but I don't know about it being $2500 big.
Always best to ask them what they're intending to do for that sort of money.
Had my T5 serviced last Wednesday 165K scheduled service although (actually done 173K as out of sync a bit) and the staff mentioned to me that the next service scheduled at 180K or for me 188K will cost approx $2,500 as it involves major work and time. In fact the serviceman hinted if I was thinking of trading in to do so before. Has anyone had this service done and if outside of a dealer could you share the cost please.
Edit: I think the gates couplings are parts needing replacement at 180K scheduled service.

Which engine and trannie ? and what year .
Hmmmmmm I had a similar experience. Flex coupling between alternator and A/C compressor failed so had quote from local dealer. Gosford
Flex coupling and clutch $700
labour $700
A/C compressor will probably need replacing, $1900
180k service at same time $1500
They wanted to remove front rack for access??
I went non dealer Wolfsburg Motors in St Peters, and had coupling, ac clutch and compressor renewed for $1750, all new parts if you were wondering.
Couldn't ask for better service, great communication, just wish they weren't a 2 hour drive away.
My V6 '06 Multivan is booked in with Burwin in Burwood Victoria for its 180 k service for approx. $1000.00
Shop around and ask what's included.
Make sure mechanic has correct diagnostic equipment for dealing with any fault codes..
June 07 build , 2.5tdi 128kW, A6...as per signature, lol.
Same dealer Burwin Ferntree Gully, different engine.
Yes, well it's got 183 on the clock, service due at 185, so yep, should've been changed 3000 k's ago. thanks Sherlock.
It also brings up the point of taking cars to spanner twisters that 'know' the vehicle, as in how many Supercheap tuners/backyard Bob's know that the coupling needs to be changed at 180k. So there is merit in taking to the dealer, and it comes at a dollar premium.
