Another Kombi Beach Question...

I know this might sound a bit rough but it actually looks ok and works really well on the darker tinted rear sliding windows of the T5 Kombi Beach.

Make a square out of two inch Water Proof Black Gaffa Tape with inside dimensions of the square the same size as the window opening.

Lay down a square of fly screen material with outside dimensions one inch smaller than the outside of the gaffa tape square.

With four hands stick the pre-prepared sticky fly-screen squares to cover the sliding window opening on the outside of the van.

Mine have been on for 7 months so far and comments are that it still looks good (1mm of the white sticky is now visible at the edges). You can drive with the windows open and the fly-screen stays in place. My kids have pushed on it from the inside and it doesn't seem to have moved. Provides complete freedom of operation of the sliding windows. Amazing stuff that gaffa tape.

I have developed a new idea for mossy nets from your method, except that I have held mine on to the outside with button magnets. I took pieces of gauze and folded gaffa tape over the edges embedding small button magnets. I then stapled the first edging then ran folded gaffa tape over that again right around, forming a black border.

Just got my beach a few weeks ago..one of the last of the Burwins ones. Our first night away in it we must have been excited cause we slept fine, just had 6 nights in it at Minnie Waters...ouch...will be looking at BCF before the next overnighter.
Will also look at doing the flyscreens as in the previous post for the hot nights. Will also have lots of questions regarding power for accessories soon too!

Good to hear you bought a beach, was it one of the yellow ones.

Got the silver, the yellows were autos. We took a punt and bought it without physically seeing or driving it and so far we are very happy. Just need to sort the bed comfort issue.
I do have some questions regarding power for accessories which I think is addressed in another post, so i'll ask the questions there.

Yea I did BJ, have been toying with both ideas on this thread, we were only talking about it today (as we are going to a fancy dress tonight and will crash in the Kombi) I like your idea better cause you can remove them easier. We need one for the RH side at least, not sure on the other side as it is an entry point. Do you drive with them on?
We have only ever done single nights so far, but are planning a good break soon (i wish), i work for myself and find it hard to take time off. (1267 days to our retirement plan)

Because the magnets sit fully on the door metal, the door can still be opened no problem. But we will still remove them each day to move on as we do with the inner window shades. When we travel we don't put things like the shades and mossy shields and the table back into their proper place, the table just sits on the floor behind the drivers seat on edge, and the shades lie on the bed. It takes almost no work at all to move each day when on tour.

I know what you mean about retiring, and the financial meltdown does not help. Remember when we bought ours, it was two years from theoretical retirement, well now 18 months of that time has passed. We are lucky to have accumulated a lot of long service leave, which is how we are getting enough holidays.

We are still trying to work out ways to retire in 6 months time, and them we will go around Australia. The two years since the decision to buy the van was for preparing and testing, so now we have everything sorted, and since the trip to Tasmania we know that we can do it comfortably without stress. This is in part due to our plan of only travelling a maximum each day of 4 hours, then we camp and explore the area.

You have some interesting inventions there, especially the plastic window covers, I have been thinking about those clear plastic awning things you stick along the top of the window to stop water running in in light rain which usually accurs at night when you are asleep.

We have also made a net for the rear door from gazebo side panel gauze with elastic around it, keeps mozzies and flies out in a hot climate where you need to leave the rear door adjar at night. We have also made one of those lockable link rods to hold the rear door open slightly out of a tent peg.

Is yours a kombi beach or multivan that you have modified?
