Only way to properly check the coupling is to remove the front engine mount and brackets, undo the three bolts that hold the compressor in, and pull the compressor far enough out that the coupling can be removed.
Once you've gone that far, you might as well check the one for the alternator too.
If the coupling is OK, get an air con guy to test the refrigerant quantity and compressor operation.
Before undoing stuff, you can check if the compressor is spinning, with the undertray off start up with ac on, look up at compressor to see if the larger black damper coupling is spinning (that is between the rubber coupling and the compressor body) if that is spinning then the rubber coupling is most likely ok. If not spinning, carry on removing bits. Did you check the indicator light in ac switch is on?
No A/c switch

With a/c on I think it would be showing a yellow light in the auto button, and a temperature in the display, that pic is showing only fan speed, can you set temp with either Auto or another button? If not you may have to start checking fuses.
SB Fuse holder top one under dash - SB14, # 14 on fuse holder B, 30A. SB15, # 15 on fuse holder B, 7.5A.
SB25, # 25 on fuse holder B, 5A. * (The Left card in your pic)
SC Fuse holder lower one under dash - SC18, fuse 18 on fuse holder C, 5A, (Climatronic rear)
SD Fuse holder eng compt, near LH headlight.- SD3, fuse 3 on fuse holder D, 15A, (A/C relay)
No light anywhere and I cant remember ever seeing one?
Also I have taken the cover off the battery area near the headlight and I cant see a fuse box?
I will have a better look this weekend
Rhanks
I'll jump in here on this one the fuses in the engine bay are " under " the battery you have to remove the battery then unbolt the heavy metal plate that has about 6 bolts holding it down . I suppose it's not a group of fuses VW expect you to have trouble with as they are pretty heavy amperage ones in there .
Thanks for that, at least I can cofirm I am not blind!!
No, the other one in the eng compt, remove the plastic partition near the headlight and look down and you will see the fuse cover with two knobs or wing nut type screws, thats where the lower current one is, I doubt there would be trouble with the main fuses although on a T5 anything is possible. I cant find a picture just now, but if you cant see it google for a pic.
