AIR BAG, dashboad red light is permanently on.
AIR BAG light is on permanently.
Whenever ignition is on, the red AirBag light on the Dashboard is on.
Possible / probable cause is I spilt a full cup of milky coffee over my Steering wheel and Steering column about 2 years ago.
At the time I cleaned as best as could but am thinking the milk based coffee got in every nook and cranny including the Steering wheel airbag mechanism.
Approx 1 -7 days later the red dashboard Airbag light came on and has always stayed on as soon as ignition is on.
Being a 1998 T4 5cyl 2.5l it has just the one airbag in the steering wheel.
Any ideas or suggestions. Is there a safe work around without having to go to a VW dealership ?

It could possibly be the clock spring as they can fail on occasion. It would be best to find someone in your area with VCDS to check for codes. You will also need to clear the codes once the problem is fixed in order to clear the light. PM me if you need a clock spring, I have a know good one spare. Cheers.

Had airbag light on for about 3 services , twice asked then to fix it , each time they said have to book it in again as they did not have time
and they just reset the airbag light which would come back on in a few days after service.
At last service they quoted $600 for new wiring loam and fitting extra , before I got around to having it fixed the blinker stalk stopped
working , took it in for new blinker stalk $395.00 , picked up and no airbag light on , still no light after 8 months.
Noticed ebay had original blinker stalk for $70 delivered so got ripped off again ???

VW price was it ? you can buy the original VW part with the cruise control and MFD as well for less than $300 of the net . Shame was I threw away two original non cruise ones off our vans some time back .
