Hi guys as nothing much seems to get posted on weekends I thought I would give an update to our T5,s aftermarket Chinese head units . The original post on the fitting of these units was July last year and IN2VWS asked if they would still be there in 6 months , well its just 8 months on and I can report the units are still in the vans and are still working as they should . As these are Windows based OS there has been only one instance where I had to do a reset a simple press of a button clears the memory and it then reboots itself, naturally you have to just reset bass treble and station memory and time and thats it , now would I buy another answer yes , the Chinese are constantly updating their products every few years with new features etc and for the money its worth it $350 .
I would not suggest they are for every one as the need for some owners to keep VW units in their vans is a priority . But because I am on the road every day for work the features are what I need reverse camera [so I can see what I am going to hit ] Hmm I should have had the camera fitted to the side mirrors so then I would have not hit the post that took off the mirror. I love the touch screen for operation as it means that I do not have to touch the phone to answer etc . Apparently its okay to touch the radio screen but not the phone in Qld , GPS is great the speed camera alert still cause me to jump when it goes off I just wish I could talk back to the lady when she nags me about being over the speed limit [okay no one,s perfect ]. All in all a good unit for the money my friend who bought a 2011 T5 wants me to fit one for him the wiring will be a challenge as its Can Bus so I will get the adapter , will let you know how it goes .
