    Aero Wiper install T5.2

For no apparent reason VW stopped installing Aero wipers in the new T5.2 and as far as I know they aren't even an option I've been getting to this since we first got the Van in 2010... but finally today (after picking up the parts yesterday I have my Aero wipers!

    The old:

    and the new:

For those that are interested the steps are pretty straight forward:

Put your wiper in the up position:

Pop the caps over the bolts:

Undo the bolts (13mm socket) and remove the wiper arms. As a safety tip, just like removing a steering wheel, it's worth leaving the nut on by thread or two while you loosen the arm since it can be on there pretty tight and will either come off hitting you in the face or hitting the bonnet and chipping that.

Install them in reverse order and enjoy.

    Old vs New arms:

    The needed parts:
    7H6998002 - Wiper Blade Set
    7H6955409 - Aero Wiper Arm
7H6955410 - Aero Wiper Arm (not sure which is left and which is right... but you need both )

(It looks like you can buy the blades individuals too: 7H5955425 - Wiper Blade (each))

Rear Wiper if you want to do them all at the same time:
    7E0955425 - Aero wiper blade

At a shade over $200 from the dealers (even at the fleet rate) they weren't exactly cheap but you end up with a lower profile wiper which I think looks better than the stock unit or the aftermarket aero blade which fit the stock arms.

Pretty happy with 15 minutes work

    Hi there,

The aero wiper arms weren't on my 2008 Mulltivan either, although they were on some earlier models. I went the cheaper path a bought some Bosch Aero wipers and slotted them on to the existing existing wiper arms. They look OK and perform well. I think they were about $60 from memory. Currently 'free' with Windscreens O'brien if you have any windscreen work done.

    Cheers, Scott

At the risk of repeating myself from May 2013 further up in this thread, you don't need to change the wiper arms. The Bosch ones fit nicely over the existing arms and look integrated. Mine are still working well.

Well all fitted and it was safe to assume the arms and blades are the same for the Multivan and Transporter
Now I just have to wait for it to rain again.

Yes...well...I must confess that I had missed your initial post in amongst all the enthusiasm for the aero arms and blades
I would have given them I try first.
In fact...in hindsight I probably should have tried a genuine vw set of the original blades first...because the shuddering I was repeatedly getting...may have always been due to using oem blades?
Oh well...at least it was a business expense...

Got any photos of them installed? I'm interested to see how they look.

I've always known there were aero options that fit the "stock" mounting, but the ones I've seen stick out a lot more and I've just always thought the aero arms just sat nicer.

Yes the BOSCH aftermarket ones are pretty good.

However the official VW aero wiper arms have a different shape and geometry and spring tension etc to support the official VW aero blade. IMHO the original non-aero VW arms looked like something off a 1980's mazda.

The photos in this thread should give you an idea of the difference

    Aero Wiper install T5.2

The parts guy has to go back to '06 or maybe '05 before he found the parts

Hi mate! Thanks for this awesome tip! VW Essendon Melbourne got me the parts in - the parts guy even mentioned he had never seen these "7H6" parts before - $236 all u, and future replacement blades will be $61 - that's actually cheaper than I can get the aftermarket "TRICO" aero blades that fit on the old arm mounts.

I've attached the receipt in case that helps future aspiring aero upgraderers

aside from the aesthetic, is there any advantage to the aero?
