Advice needed for trip (Sydney - Perth)

Hi all

I have a vw t4 1998 2.5 ltr which I love, it's being with me for over 4 years, I take great care of it. We got offered a job in Perth and we are thinking about driving to Perth and making a holiday of it, we are thinking about driving the van with a small trailer..

Do you think it willl be too much for the van, is the load of our belonging going to be too much weight to carry.
We are giving our selfs about 9 days to do the trip.

It's had all belts changed, aux belt, timing belt water pump etc recently. I changed the oil last week and recently I changed the fuel pump, she is driving very well for a girl of her age and even looks better than newer t4s I have seen.

As long as the timing belt etc. was done properly & there is no tendency to overheating you should be fine. My opinion on long trips is to take it easy & not travel to fast/hard. Take some tools with you but not too much can be done on the side of the road. I now take a multimeter with me & a workshop manual. If you are travelling soon, the weather should be with you without the stress of summer heat on the tyres & engine. Enjoy the trip & try not to worry about things that could go wrong.

Many thanks for your response, Timing belt done 7000 ks ago all good there. Cooling is also good as it have replaced part of the system. We will take it nice and easy I think. Looking forward to the massive road trip.

The Nullabour run is mainly a flat wide good quality road, you can cruise in comfort without the stress of climbing mountain ranges, we did it a couple of years ago in our kombi beach, going west to east, its a very enjoyable drive.

You will soon find your comfortable cruising speed - keep the tyres as hard as you can - I suggest with your combination 38pis up.

I have done this trip three times & have chosen small route variations to take in the points of interest on the way, the view across the Bight being one of them. Stop off in Kalgoorlie for a couple of days. Watch out for the roos after any rain - they like a drink off the side of the roads.

Watch out for nice policemen with cameras taking photos of tourists from interstate .

Great trip, go for it with confidence. Your bus will eat it up. I have done this trip in my 1997 T4 2.5 loaded to the max' with family and gear, without so much as a flat tyre.Melbourne-Perth-Kalbarrie-Melbourne. Brilliant.

Next time, I want to drive my 1967 splitbus. She has made that trip with a previous owner from Melb'-Perth and back.
