Hi
Thanks for all the advice, very helpful forum, NOT!
Hi all
I am looking at buying our first people mover and like the look of a second hand 2011 T5 multivan. It was built March 11 and is the 2.0lt tdi done 105,000km, what should I look out for with these and are they susceptible to DSG failure or anything else major? We are comparing against a same age Tarago but I prefer the multivan flexibility of the seats but reliability is my concern.
thanks in advance
Tim
Hi
Thanks for all the advice, very helpful forum, NOT!
Tim.
This forum is very helpful. But like most forums it can take a while to find out the info you require. Also that is about the standard amount of km for that age vechicle and the multiv and don't seam to do the amount of km the trade vans do.
Like any used car have a good look around it see if it has had the servicing at the correct points and by who( dealers are not always the best) general wear and tear.
From my reading of this site and others the earlier t5 dsg had the problems 2005-2010. Search this and other forums for that.
As as for the multivan lay out. I could not be happier. I too was taken back with the way the seats can be moved around as things change. For me 4 seater to mountain bike hauler to dirt bike rig and sadly to 7 seater people mover.so oboist 10 different vechicle said in one.
Good luck
Hi Tim
I bought a 2010 Caravelle 2 years ago with 98000km, put 100k on it, then sold it last year with no problems at all
A 2011 with that kind of mileage you'd want to make sure it's had a timing belt and waterpump done. DSG oil replaced every 60000km also
It's a heavy car with an auto, so it'll be heavy on brakes.
What the Multivan doesn't have over a Tarago is clever seat movements - yes they still tilt and slide but they don't fold or anything, and lifting the bench seat out is a back-breaking exercise. But there are so many cool features as well, like the sunblinds, the rear aircon / reading lights, and of course the German build finish
We loved the Caravelle, really miss it!
And the Multivan towers over a Tarago! You never realise how much smaller a Kia Carnival or Tarago is until you pull up next to one!
In stock guise it's a hair under 2m tall so you need to be aware of just how tall your garage is as well as any parking lot, tunnel etc that you might drive into... something I never thought about before getting out Multivan but something I am keenly aware of now (luckily not through disaster)
Ours is the 2010 T5GP or T5.1 (or the first of the 4 cylinder 2L Turbo 103kW models vs the older 128kW NA jobs). Other than an early warranty claim for a failed EGR (or something around there) it's been serviced regularly and used nothing but tyres, brakes and fuel... and even then nothing excessive. 140k and doing fine! *knock on wood*
We love ours and would find it hard to buy anything else to replace it... other than a new Multivan of course! But for the moment I think we will keep on trucking in this one until the kids get a bit bigger.
