235/65R17 Tyres as Trakka OFP option...

I breifly visited the caravan/camping show at caulfield this past week, to check out some camper/motorhome conversions. I noted that Trakka had a tyre option of a Pirelli Scorpion ATR being a 235/65R17 on show. This is the exact tyre (as 265/65R17) I have currently on my MY10 Pajero. Its been on since new and I've done 55k kms with atleast 50% tread remaining. whilst I haven't done any serious offroading, its been on many tracks but is also great on bitumen in the dry n especially the wet...

In regards to the 235-tyre, I noticed it was a larger diameter tyre to the standard factory T5GP fitment, ie would increase ground clearance by about half an inch as I think its 730mm vs 700mm. One thing I forgot to ask the Trakka crew was regarding the spare tyre fitment, whether this larger tyre diameter would fit under the rear floor...? Furthermore, would this tyre be within the allowable specification for vehicle modification...? I'll be having my transporter fitted out for a camper when it arrives, as such I'll be needing an engineers certificate for cutting the roof open as well as fitment etc, perhaps the increased tyre dia and suspension modifications will be covered under this...?

    shtoney,

Can you please give us some info on who is doing your camper conversion?

Are they doing it on your transporter as you bought the van and then taking it to them for the fit out?

Would you give us some idea of costs involved?

Thanks and sorry I can not help with your tyre question.

at this point in time we are planning to have Roadtrek do our camper conversion, they do motorhomes/campers all the way up to million dollar bus conversions. I've ordered my T5GP with the factory options I need and will take the vehicle as soon as it arrives for the fitout. not entirely sure about costs cause its still at the initial planning stage, but depending on content the actual conversion should cost us between $35-45k.

in regards to the tyres, I need to stay with 17in because of the brakes on the 4motion, also for the sake of bein able to take the camper on sand I wont go larger. but whilst I intend on getting a second spare on the rear bumper, not being able to fit a spare under the floor because of the larger diameter would be a kick in the pants. I don't trust factory tyres at the best of times, let alone when the vehicle will spend some time offroad. those pirellis would be a great fitment, if I can make them (all) fit that is...
