The original spare is the very lowly used Michelin Agilis 51, 7 years old.[/QUOTE]

    Hi Tornado,

I also have a slightly used Michelin spare, and I'm thinking of going back to the Michy's now my Bridgestone AT's are almost gone. I'm not doing much off-road now, and I think the Michy's handled a little better (and lasted a little longer). Would you be interested in selling yours, with or without the wheel. I'm living in Mallacoota now, but my son is in Berwick, so pick-up could probably be arranged.
If any-one else has one I'd also be interested, as ideally I'll need another 2.

Pmail me if you prefer; bd.reed11@gmail.com

    Thanks, Brian

My 2011 Multivan came with Bridgestone R410's from the factory and they only lasted 33,000km's.

I have ordered Goodyear G26 only because they are fitted on my work Falcon which is always loaded to it's limit and managed 56,000 km's before the rears wore out. Reasonably quiet and seem to handle well (If a heavily load Falcon Ute ever handles well). Spent a lot of time on dirt roads with them too.

Well it's about time to replace the Hankook RA14's - after 40,000km.
I was not as happy with them as the Continentals for ride - and got 15,000km less.

So at this stage I think I'll go with the Maxxis EU 103.
Are there any updates on the Maxxis?
    Or anything better?

    I have been quoted for a set of 205/65 R16C;
    Maxxis EU 103 - $195 each
Goodyear Cargo V2 - $160 each (if I buy right now)
Imperials - $155 each (has anyone heard of them? - it seems everyone has a better option than Maxxis when I ask for them)

Does anyone know if the Goodyear Cargo G26 different to the Cargo V2? - is the V2 actually the Cargo Marathon 2?
I am a bit concerned about the noise reports from this forum on the Cargo's - I'd reckon I'd also be unhappy with that.
Even though it's $35 a tyre more, there seems to be better feedback on the Maxxis here.
Maybe I should also look at the Hankook RA18 or RA23 if they come in 16's?

And with the earlier comments about 215's - should I stay with 205's?

And the front and rear alignment is quoted as $69 - so that must be what I paid last time - also got quoted $65 and $69 elsewhere as I chased the Maxxis.

And regarding when to change tyres - I felt I needed to change because from about late 30k they began to slip when taking off in the wet, especially on an incline - and I am worried about what will happen if I have to brake suddenly in the wet - but I asked my rwc mechanic at last weeks service if they needed to be replaced and he said no - even the tyre place said to me you don't replace them just because they're slipping - that's what vans do they - I've never had a commercial vehicle before - am I being a little to precious and just wasting money?

I just grabbed some 15" RA18's for the T4...quiet as. The GT Radial Maxways they replaced were nearly nude but still effective after almost 80,000 kays. The old Cargo G26 tyres I still had were stripped off their rims...the carcass was heavier and thicker than the Maxways. Read into that what you will...

    Again...don't over think it.

You know, I may start to get a "complex" about this
You're far from alone in questioning my processes...which I doubt will surprise you
Thinking is free though...particularly useful for those with a little time...and no money.
Thanks for all the input...it's appreciated.

In the end I need to revise my negative view of the Hankook RA14's - they started to loose grip in the front when starting on inclines especially in the wet after 40,000km - but I was told that's just how commercial vehicles/tyres are - so I kept going with them and was just more careful in the wet - have now done 52,000 and would have gone 55,000 but a flat tyre on xmas day has forced my hand early rather than repairing an almost stuffed tyre. So that's as good as I got from the original Continental VancoContacts that were much more expensive.

So I've decided to go for an off the shelf set of Goodyear Cargo Marathons (not Vector's?) at $155 each. My local tyre place shows little interest in providing Maxxis. I could have waited for a set of Hankook RA18's at $180 each but decided to test out the reported longer life of the Cargo's and hopefully I won't be complaining about the noise or grip. It was $70 extra for a front and rear wheel alignment. I'll report back on the tyres later.

    After a couple of weeks with the Goodyear Cargo Marathons (not Vector's?) at $155 each in comparison to the Hankook RA14's they replaced;
    - Ride well - notice no difference
    - Are definitely noisier - as in more road noise in the cabin - if they last significantly longer I would be ok with that
    - The grip is not quite as good when new - I can really only comment on this with standing starts on an incline especially when wet - but as all my tyres have got older that grip seems to get worse so I just modify how I drive
So it will depend on how long they last as to whether I would recommend them over my previous tyres - they are fairly cheap - hopefully the road noise does not get worse.

Reviving an old thread to ask for opinions on tyres.
The Hankook RA28s (215/65/16C 106/104T LT) on our Caravelle need replacing after 65,000 km's.
What I would like is something quieter that provides a softer ride, but also get good mileage...if there is such an all round tyre!

    I am considering:
    Cargo G26 $159 (typically $180+)
    Continental VancoContact 100 $189 (typically $220+)
    Any other suggestions welcome!

I'm getting conflicting advice from various tyre shops.
Most say the Cargo are longer lasting, and one shop wouldn't even want to sell me the Conti's over the Cargo due to greater wear rate.
Another said the Conti's are a softer ride and quieter ride, and would have similar mileage.

Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated!

I've probably mentioned this earlier in the thread.

    My first tyres were - Continental VancoContact 205/65 R 16 C 107/105 T
I got 55,000km - probably could have gone 60,000km+ but the front wheels had started spinning at takeoff on inclines and in the wet
They were the best tyres I have had for drive - but not by a long way - and they are expensive down here - was quoted $220 each

    Next I tried - Hankook RA14 205/65R16C 107/105 - $175 each
I got 52,000km but change them early with a puncture and again probably could have got 60,000km
They were close to the Continentals.

This time I went cheaper with - Goodyear Cargo Marathons - $155 each
The ride is probably a bit less but I don't notice any more.
I was told they will be long lasting but still too early to tell.
