Continental Vanco 6 and 8 models in this size are no longer available (I think) only Vanco 2 in a 109 load rating.

The Bridgestone D693 is available in this size and rated as an AT pattern D693

Thanks Transporter & Seano. I tried to reply to this earlier, but it seems to have vanished into the ether. Have checked on the Bridgestones, and they look promising, but so far they have been hard to find. Best is Jax Quickfit, who reckon they can get 2 (of course I need 5, or maybe four if I keep the original Michi spare as it is the same diameter). Otherwise, said to be out of stock. Have a couple of places still looking for me. They are still the only ones I have found in this size which are load rated. Another possibility is the Bridgestone 694 at 225/70 16 (about 5% larger, which I think would be OK), but they are only 102 rated. This the legal minimum by the sticker, but less than what I have (104/106 for the Michi's. The 693's are 106). Are they likely to be more flexible/squishy with the lower rating and taller profile?

The alloys look tempting. I passed on alloys originally as I had already stretched my budget, but mainly because the ones on offer at Trakka (can't remember the name) looked very vulnerable to kerb rash. The spokes seemed to stand out beyond the rim a bit. These Tangis look better. Does any-one have them on, and how vulnerable are they? My original steels are looking a bit battered (stone chips rusting) after my Cape Yorke trip, especially the spare, which has lots of gravel rash from being under the back. (ps. Does any-one know if it can be mounted up the other way. ie inner wheel facing down?).

OK, decision made. Collected the alloys from Bayfords (thanks Daniel) and have ordered 5x Bridgestone D693s from Jax Preston (Good service from Micheal there. He was very patient with all my questions and research, and then beat the Bob Jane price). Apparently a new shipment has just arrived on the docks, so should be about a week or two into store. With a bit of luck I'll have them in time for the DotVW on the 21st. In all my research this is still the only AT tyre I've found in this size and load rating, but I've had Bridgestones in the (distant) past, and I think they should be good. Availability should be OK now for any-one else looking.

    Recomendations for Tyres

Ok.. MY11 Caravelle needs a couple of new front Tyres... only done 16k - that's another story.

    Anyway... 215/65/16

    What do you recommend?

Don't want to go down the real "commercial" tyre lines.... prefer to stick with same size/load rating from car range. I know its limited in choice.

    Any thoughts?

    So far have..
Bridgestone - same version as supplied new - $300 plus
    Dunlop SP 4270 - around $240 mark

    I prefer Goodyear normally...

Just recently got two new ones for our Caravelle. I went for price over brand and got two passenger tyres with the proper load rating including fitting for $220.
I see you're in QLD. If anywhere near Brisbane I can only recommend ETyreStore - Highest Quality, Lowest Prices- ETyreStore.com.au - New Tyre Store - Home
They used to do wholesale only but recently opened up for retail too. Can look up the details tonight if you want.

In that size, Continental Vanco 2 or the GT Radial Maxmiler CX. Neither are a passenger tyre but then you aren't driving a passenger car. I had a very good run from the GTs previously. Since switched to another GT tyre in 15".

As for that Dunlop...it isn't listed on the Oz site. So there's a good chance it's a grey import....

I had Yokohama AVS550 in a 235/60/16 on my previous T5. Very quiet, very good grip in wet or dry. 35-40k out of them. Got them for around $220 each fitted. I would buy them again.

I have four Maxxis VanPro's on mine, so far they have done 50,000km and look like they will do another 50k. I think they were $200 each at Bob Jane.

They don't tear up when you go on dirt roads like the original Michelins did.

I would go by twr (tread wear rating) you should see it on the tyre sidewall - close to the tread.

Update on my Maxxis vanpro UE-103:

They lasted 90,000km, still had a bit of tread but one got a bit of a bump on it so out they went. I liked them so much I bought another set which have now done about 20,000, aiming for 100,000 this time.

I will buy another set when these expire if they are still available.
