Anyway...........here's Andy's great video on it.

Had the engine warning light come on yesterday (merry xmas). No shortage of threads to choose from for T5 EGR problems
There were 3 faults but the only one I remember is the EGR. Cleared them and and hasn't returned...so far...seems inevitable though. Have only been driving the car occasionally and for short trips over the last 6 months. And it came on as soon as a put a lightly loaded trailer on. After reading about this it looks like I have probably accelerated this almost inevitable problem. Have watched the videos and it seems not worth trying to clean it? And if it's the corrosion issue then that won't help anyway.
I think I had this done under warranty in the first 3 years? Apparently they were supplied with a faulty one? It went into limp mode when that failed.
Looks like I am lucky (?) again that I have the single turbo model. The repair process seems much easier than the bi turbo. Just got a price for the cooler/valve assembly from VW at $590 inc gst.

Engine warning light came back on within a week. Also the coil light now too. No limp mode...yet.
If I tried to replace the EGR myself, can I confirm, there is no way I can reset the computer without taking it to a mechanic (like I can with the older falcon and mazda using forscan software)?
And if that's the case then I probably may as well get the mechanic to do the whole job?
When I do get it done, being a single turbo model (which makes it an easier job than the bi-turbo?), is there anything else I should get replaced at the same time? I read in this thread with a bi-turbo you should probably get the thermostat done at the same time?
I will be interested to see if it is failing due to carbon buildup or rust or both?

Mine looked as good as new from the outside when I pulled it out...........I keep meaning to look inside and see what's going on.....but haven't got around to it yet.
I bought a 'moo' valve to replace at the same time but didn't do that either.........although it still 'moos' from time to time.
Yes, you will need a 'proper' program to do the adaption........but what you save on labour with this job would cover it, I suspect.
The most useful thing is the fuel priming function when you change the diesel fuel filter.
You might find someone on the forum you can drive to after changing it to do the adaption.

Thanks for that.
And I have just realised I was involved in a thread here about buying your own scanner a couple of years back. Had completely forgotten about that. I might follow that up as $300 may be worth it as you say.

I'm having trouble quoting you in the other thread but for $300 you might as well go the whole hog and get this.

Pretty sure the other things won't do the adaption etc.
