So the delete kit completely blocks off the egr system? Does this have any benefit to the performance or is it something the engine can live without?
EGR delete kits are available for just about all makes of diesel engines. A lot of people say their cars run smoother and a little better as a result of not having dirty old exhaust gas clogging up the intake system. i have had my EGR blocked on my Navara for the last 180k without issue.
I commented on this very thing recently after I spoke to a specialist independent VW repairer , he told me while it can be done he was uncertain what the long term result would be on the engine . He explained that VW would have the pistons made to a certain heat range , if you remove the EGR the cooler attached to the EGR would change the temperature going into the engine this could then make the pistons be subject to a higher than the tolerance level which could lead to failure after a time . Now he did say it is unknown , I am going to ask that question on the Brickyard Forum in the UK as its a fairly popular thing over there . Stay Tuned .
On the T5GP TDIs, the EGR gases pass through a section of the cylinder head, to promote faster warm-up of the engine.
Faster it gets to normal operating temperature, the more fuel-efficient and environmentally-friendly it is.

Thanks for all the info..but does anyone reckon $4200 is ballpark to replace the whole egr system? VW said that the valve and the cooler is one component.
Any other Mulitvan owners had this issue?
Engine light is still off at the moment, so I figured I'd wait for a while. I'm going to ask a couple of VW specialist mentioned in other forums too.
Another quick one, if a delete kits is installed - how does that go with insurance and engine mods?? Probably not well I assume!!
These parts are hard to Google - so many variants. I'm also trying to identify the valve on my TDI400 engine.

As Transporter said how can anyone find out.
How many times do you get pulled over or anyone actually looks behind your engine
Having one fitted to my 2006 right now
