    2011 T5 4motion power steering failure and oil usage/smoke

Had the power steering pump collapse leaving me with manual steering. Took it in to the specialist, and replaced with a good 2nd hand one. It did it again, so they replaced it with. New one. It still does it, although it seems to work for a bit then stop. Drove 2kms, then it stopped working in the middle of a 3 point turn. Nonalternatorblightband. Aircon still works. When I open the resevoir when it's not working, the fluid isn't moving/swirling. Haven't managed to check it when it is working, as it's hit and miss when it does it.

Any ideas before we sell this thing?????

They still haven't managed to sort the oil leak (I did a James bond smoke screen the other day. Was fun to see, but I don't imagine its fun for the person behind me. They've replaced both turbos with a known good 2nd hand pair (new was roughly 3k, 2nd hand under used car warranty). Still burning oil... Unless it's the residual build up from before. They seem to think it's rings. Going to try a different mob for a 2nd opinion.

    That's not many really.

I recall having to replace a steering pump on my T4 and because it was a non repairable sealed unit, it was one of the cheapest things I ever got off VW!

Thats a bit hard to accept at 180k has a tech made sure its rings could there be another reason for oil to get into the combustion chamber or some other part where it gets burnt causing smoke ? My old beastie 4 pot T5 2005 petrol has over 330000 kays and it uses a little bit of oil for every few thousand kays but no smoke . What about oil leak into the turbo ?

How much oil does it lose?
If it’s > 0.5L per 1000km and the EGR code is A,B or C, then it’s prob corroded EGR destroying the pistons.
    My 2010 T5.2 started loosing oil @ 140k. I blanked the EGR & Remapped.
Just had new engine put in @ 185k. Drives really well now.
    Punchy & economical.

About 1l per tank.. So yeah about that. But it's blowing smoke out the back. I can do a James bond smoke screen sometimes.

What’s the last letter on the EGR?
A,B&C have been dodgy, I think revision D is okay.
