    2007 T5 Multivan central locking

    Hi All,
My '07 Multivan had a brain explosion a month back where 90% of the functions failed and it blew a headlight bulb while driving at night. After stopping for a hour all seemed good apart from the blown bulb and the central locking doesn't work. Fixed the bulb but after looking on line the central locking seems more of a challenge I have read where there is a module under the drivers seat that can suffer water damage and short out but most of the discussions are based on a transporter which doesn't have all of the crap the multivan has.
Has anyone experienced this and could point me in the right direction?

Well you have the info as posted earlier the problem is the same regardless of what model Transporter/ Multi Van /Sportline , under drivers seat is the location for the problem part . I have the same problem with both our T5s at the moment . If I get a chance I will be having a gander but in our case both vans have huge amplifier and a Line out converter with massive amounts of cabling to boot under the seat so I have to be in the mood to tackle the job .

I have the same problem! There is a 6 stack CD player to get out of the way first plus I don't think I have one of tork drivers to remove the two back screws which hold the seat down. Thats the stuff with VW that drives me nuts, why not just use 4 nuts!!

Amen brother ! wait till you have to remove some other parts on your van . If you have to replace the side door rollers and yes they do fail you will need to get another special socket for that .Unlike some of the VW 6 sided splines bolts those have 12 or 16 from memory and trying to find one at some places is a real exercise .The very first set of rollers that failed I ended up using an air chisel to "crack "the bolts and then replaced them with High Tensile "normal" bolts .

Wasn't it fun removing the two large bolts holding the caliper on to the control arm mine were massively tightened up beyond belief . I will check out the locking thing in a few days unless someone comes in beforehand .

Problem solved !! no need to remove seat or the amplifiers , when you slide the seat right forward you can easily see a wiring connector block on the left side it is actually sitting above the floor not under the mat as I first thought . There are three places for plugs to be used but in both our vans only the front two are used , you can see from the photo that the rear one with no connecting plug is completely corroded away . I have no idea how that can happen inside the van , the next plug the large one is for the central locking system . I removed the plug and then refitted it the locks started to work perfectly right away , so I went to Jaycar and bought a product made for just this sort of thing Deoxit . It has two parts in small spray bottles one is an oxidiser converter you spray it on and leave it for 12 hours it turns the oxidation black and cleans the metal contacts , then you spray the second part which is some sort of liquid gold plating protector stuff . This part improves the connection and keeps away further oxidation from forming .
