I think that the person who will see the internal combustion engine only in the museum has not been born yet.
The hybrids are around for 25years and had no impact on the combustion engine cars production.
The electric vehicle was invented almost at the same time as the internal combustion one, if you don't count the steam engine.
The second attempt to convert to electric in mid 90s has failed as well, now the 3rd attempt and it will be another at least 25years of all sorts of hybrids, after that who knows, maybe in 100 years from now.
It's all down to convenience and easy to use. I don't see the vehicle that needs the overnight charge to be able to drive 200-500km and in perfect environmental conditions to get that range, as very convenient one. The reason is simple, when the battery is exhausted, you can't refuel it in 5 or so minutes too keep going. You can't put the electricity in the jerrycans.
For now and the near future. The electric car is a degradation of the name "Automobile".
