2.5 TDI engine Transplant

Hi All

Just wondering whether transplanting a 2.5 TDI engine into a 98 manual Transporter that currently has a 2.4Litre non turbo diesel engine is a fairly straight forward job?The 98 diesel also doesn't have aircon so that would be another benefit in doing the swap.

Gearbox as well or are you going to use the original ? I did a similar job some years back with my sons T4 it had the 2.4 non turbo diesel but it was pretty much out of puff once you got upto 100kmh , passing was a big no no unless you had several kilometres of dead straight road and a downhill run . Any way I fitted a 2.5 Petrol into his and it was pretty easy to do , the engine gearbox went in as one lump . Then I swapped out the electrics and the speedo binnalce plus wiring fuel tank and exhaust .
