1994 T4 steering problem

Hi Just replaced all the front bearings, ball joints etc on the transporter and now find that the car "wanders" when driving. Thought something was loose but all seems OK. I think that the power steering might be on the way out. Not sure if its the pump. When I back off of the accelerator I can feel the steering sort of go loose and it follows the ruts in the road. Any thoughts? Thanks

Could also be these tie rod ends my sons van failed RWC because of excess movement due to wear and tear also might pay to check steering rack as well .2 RACK TIE ROD END VOLKSWAGEN T4 TRANSPORTER 95-03 | eBay I will say here that we bought the genuine VW ones as I could not wait for delivery they are about double the price of these .

After dismantling parts you will need a wheel alignment. It may be something like toeout that needs adjusting.

Thanks for the replies. I replaced the tie rod ends and there is a little bit of movement in the tie rod but not enough to cause the problem. I had a wheel alignment done after changing parts. It drives well but has developed this problem since. I;ll keep an eye on it. Maybe I can have the oil pressure checked in the steering system?

I'd take it back, and have them check the alignment again.

Unless the power steering pump has failed I dont think pressure is going to have the effect you are describing . If the pump was to fail steering would just get very stiff and heavy . If the van started to wander after wheel alignment then as Umai Naa said take the bugger back it sounds like too much toe in or out .
