    oil filters

    seems the 1.9tdi have a couple of different oil filters

    top one is the one supposed to fit according to the dealer



    the bottom one is one out of the vehicle..

    are they both genuine or is one after market brand?

    I guess if you are in doubt you could always look up the part numbers and see which engine codes they are suited to. They dont look to be the same size though which is strange.

    they arent, one is longer and has the long plastic plug

    will be ringing them monday ...

    what are the part numbers? It should be stamped on them.

    You broken it, when you were removing it, they're the same filters. You have to pull the broken bit out of the oil housing now.

    The new one is Purflex and old one is Mahle (the same).

    thanks for the tip...

    you had me there for a moment as it had me stuffed how i could have broken anything as i was pretty careful.

    seems two brands of filter and two different methods of manufacture / assembly.

    the original filter is actually in two bits clipped together and the clips on the nozzle were weak enough that they wouldn't hold when lifting the filter body out..

    new filter looks one piece or is glued and that doesnt look like it can occur..

    Yep, Mahle is the one that you didn't pull out in 1 piece. The Purflex - the new one in you picture is one piece cartridge.
