    Caddy vs Berlingo?

I'm looking to purchase a new work horse!

I find more reviews on the caddy than the berlingo.... caddy clearly being more common.

Went to test drive the new 1.6 diesel version caddy and I must say it was quite a nice car to drive... No road noise and it didn't even feel like I was driving a van... - the probably only thing that gave it away was when you look in the rear view mirror!

Before having a clear decision, I want to also have a look at the berlingo - they come in a 1.6 diesel, and they are definitely cheaper then the caddy.

I can't really find much talk on the berlingo, but maybe you guys have had some exprience with this little van or any other citreon ?

As you can see in my sig, I currently own a Citroen DS3 (very different to berlingo as it is a 'warm' hatchback). I've found that they have a lot more character and soul than VW and are built to a similar quality. I haven't had ANY issues with my DS3 at all, very reliable (surprisingly). I have heard some bad stories about both the caddy (reliability) and the berlingo (interior) though. I've heard that the berlingo does use some cheap plastics in the interior but as a van it works very well as it's cargo area is quite large apparantly. If the berlingo has the same 1.6 diesel as in the diesel DS3 available in Europe, I'd go for it as I've heard they are a very smooth diesel and very responsive (especially the 110), and also they don't sound too bad at all for a diesel. So I think the caddy wins hands down on the interior but the berlingo wins in practicality and engine. I guess it comes down to what you are after in a small van.

I had a berlingo in 2001 and a caddy in 2007 when the berlingo was still basically the same van new in 07 as 01

the berlingo i had at the time was a 1.6 petrol which went fast enough and was good on fuel about 7l/100k where my caddy ran aout 8l in diesel

main difference imho is the berlingo is slightly smaller in the cargo area

issues i had with the berlingo

    gearshift linkages lost their bolts

after a service where they updated the software it had a bug so
on a hot day the temp would go from normal to hot in an instant , stop light waning on dash and the aircon would cut out

other issue was i went on holidays and the other blke smashed it up the side

    berlingo is cheaper ,

for me there isnt much difference between the 2 but the smaller size made the difference for me despite the berlingo being a fair bit cheaper , remember peugeot also sell the same vehicle if you decide to go that way

I ended up having a look at both of them and decided to go with the Caddy Life (2011 model) TDI

It works out better for me to use the vehicle as a company car, but also as a passenger vehicle with the extra seats and the 2 sliding doors.

I'm now considering selling my 07 R32, simply because I don't think I'll be driving it as much... sad to see it go.. but if business goes well, I can buy myself an R again in the future!
