I have to take one for a real drive before I make my mind up completely, not this 5 minute thing that they all seem to like doing. I do agree with you though its a BIG vehicle and the tray is TINY! But that being said, I've always had old car's and its about time I get something nice. Im going up to Mackay though so I cant see the point in having a low thing and I refuse to own a Hilux.
Yeh I'd want to have a weeks test with it. It was a brand spanker with triple digit km's on it. So the gearbox would loosen up eventually

it was 103kw single turbo version. There will definitely be tunes out there for them soon, so power wise they will at least be a little perkier.

I'd still have one if I was in the market for a 4wd commercial vehicle.

I Agree, a weeks test with it would be great, but for normal ppl I fear it will never happen. I have a mate who works at Austral who has agree'd to take me out for a real drive of one, so hopefully I will get a better feeling than the 10 km's I did last time.

I see there are things by tuneit out already which takes it up to 150kw or something?!? Thats a fair bit of improvement, but I suppose when your trying to push 3t you need it.

As for the gear box, I would hope it would loosen up, the one I had was about 1200km's old and was still pretty notchy but yeah I'm sure it will come good with a few miles on it.

I've been watching a few reviews and they reckon with some decent shockies it would be amazing off road....what would you put in to it?

150kw would be the twin turbo one with a tune. The single turbo one (if its similar to the golf 2l TDI) will go to circa 120kw's.

I'd most likely do performance first tune it, not sure about doing anything but a cat back for the exhaust because Im certain they have DPF's. So hopefully a DPF delete tune will come soon.

Im in two minds weather I'd put some now off road kit on it or slam it on some Rotiforms Prob option one, because it would be cool to chuck some stuff in the tray and go bush with my mates, explore some more of Aus.

    Whats a DPF???

I was looking at throwing a lift kit on it for the rough stuff until I got in one. Now all I want is a F**k off bull bar with some spotty's and a tow ball. I know its a bit boring. I was wondering how it'd look if you dropped it on its guts....Still be pretty tough!

Its good to have a ute to go off roading in, but trust me, you all of a sudden get lots of mates who need a quick hand! Thats the only thing I hate about a ute.

What's a good colour, Im thinking white, but I really want Red!

I actually just had a look at it, I think your right, they have a bit of a copper coat colour. It could just be my screen though. I will have a look at one in the flesh this week.

Yaa they do a Tornado Red in the Amarok, I'd love one!

The main reason we got one is to fit the pallet in the back (which we'll be doing quite frequently). My main concern is how are you supposed to get the pallet (using a forklift) with the tail gate at a horizontal position? I understand the lower spec models without the plastic bumper has a 180 degree folding tailgate but with the Trend/Highline models, it seems a little pointless.
