    ZB engine code ?

    hey guys is a zb engine code a 1.5 1.6 diesel etc ive got one that is now petrol ?? looking for some more info.

    according to ETKA it says the ZB is 1.5L from 05/73 - 07/74 passat and 05/72 - 09/74 audi 80

    No mention of it being diesel there though? most of the diesel engines have diesel written along side it

    yeah its a petrol 1500 after some looking into my old aircooled manuals that had some early golf info , i think they had them in swallow tails aswell.

    Smile swallowtail

    I have asked this question before.... what is a swallowtail ? I am familiar with all GOlf models but I have never heard of a swallowtail model. Please somebody enlighten me & put me out of my misery!!!! ZB engines (1,5l) were in the first model petrol Passats Bazz

    This is a swallowtail. The panel between the rear lights curves upwards to the edge of the lights and is an early stamping. All cars after mid 76 have a straight panel.

    They are th 1975 build only, early 76 in Australia. Swallowtails are worth good $$s in the UK, but no one in Oz really notices

    Bazz to put you out of your misery the ZB was also used in the Audi80 1974 mate and you are right in the passat 74.

    good engine!

    the earlier 1.5's are a good engine to have - higher compression than the 1600 and with no emission control rubbish! in standard trim i think thy were faster than the 1600 - but regardless, the higher comp and smaller displacement means better fuel economy.

    I know, holy thread revival batman!! But ive got one of these ZB engines, i didnt know they made a 1.5L petrol engine in golfs.
    Can i use 1600 gaskets to freshen it up? google time now
